Been noodling a lot about AI stuff lately, and just keep SMH about how willing so many people seem to be to trust this technology.

My problem w/ the idea of AI chat bots being asked to do anything consequential is that we seem to want them to be ever-more human, while at the same time expecting them not to make mistakes.

Probably what we really want is for them to also learn from their mistakes. But that requires admitting when you're wrong -- changing your mind, if you will -- and letting others impacted know that you were in the wrong. On some levels, that seems incompatible with what many expect out of AI today.

i keep bringing this up: capitalism cannot exist without slaves --and that includes the financially indentured. since capitalists main purpose is to maximize wealth extraction from other people's labor, their relationship to workers is parasitic. slavery is the most parasitic form of wealth extraction.

so it's logical that capitalists want robots --and by extension AI-- as proxies for slave labor.

not a coincidence as layoffs were "necessary", capitalists intensified the AI hype

@mcnees ok, first off, i had no idea Lake Michigan is completely in the US and is the largest lake in the world by land mass?!?! that's friggin' bananas.

i perused wikipedia real quickly:

Puerto Rico = 3,515 sq mi
Lake Michigan = 22,404 sq mi

my brain can't process a landlocked body of water that big. ALMOST 7 TIMES THE SIZE OF PUERTO RICO!

btw: the island is to puertoricans what bananas are to Reddit. we totally use it for scale, LOL

This is an important PSA for folks looking to make any place more inclusive. Do you want to be liked by everyone? Or do you want to make progress?

I don't know anyone that has both been successful in transforming a non-inclusive place, and hasn't been accused of sounding hostile.

It takes a huge amount of energy to dance on eggshells, and I don't have time to do it. So I don't. I'm a big boy. I crack sidewalks when I walk. So eggshells would have no chance anyway. 🤷🏿‍♂️

when Threads launched, a number of right wing accounts with a history of posting misinformation on other platforms were flagged with a warning label informing users that they “repeatedly posted false information”

however, it appears Threads has now removed these labels

a Meta spokesperson told Donald Trump Jr. that his account was flagged in “error” and that it’s since “been fixed”

    Adam Curry, who eons ago was an MTV personality, has for the last 15 years or so been a conspiracy-obsessed libertarian podcaster and professional nihilist. But recently he decided to become an evangelical.

    This clip of him appearing on Joe Rogan to explain why he converted is so perfect in that he compares believing in Biblical literalism to 9/11 conspiracy theories--as an endorsement.

    There's no better illustration of broken far-right epistemology than this clip. It's surreal.

    I'm a 59 year old African American woman. I've desegregated a town, a school system and many other spaces. When I discuss racism in this nation, I'm not going to ameliorate my speech for the comfort of anyone. I don't exist to comfort others about the reality of what I was born into - what we all live in together. If that's a problem for you, I suggest you embark on some self-reflection to determine what your actual role is within this system.

    papi was in Puerto Rico's first Olympics delegation & held PR's 200 & 400 with hurdles record for 30 yrs

    me and my brother were the first to sue PRico's Catholic Church (and managers of our school) for racial discrimination

    btw, though my mom was a blondie, she was mestiza --her grandmother was literally one of the hundreds of thousands of taínos both Spain and USA claimed didn't exist in Puerto Rico.

    mami was in the first woman's volleyball team of her (and Sonia Sotomayor's mom's) hometown; San Germán. it's the second oldest town in PR and one of the most conservative too.

    VB is huge in PR; so back in the 1950s, that was not just groundbreaking, but radical.
