Canadian journalism takes another hit - layoffs impacting large and small newsrooms, as well as the award-winning flagship national investigative news program, W5. Ooof.

Spent part of the day designing and printing a watercolour swatch card template for my wife. She described something she saw and this was the result.

I used one of the textured print beds for that cool finished effect.

I guess it's time. Looking for #Mastodon desktop client recommendations (MacOS)

I've gotten to the point where the web client isn't meeting my needs. Especially regarding ALT text filtering.

Prefer a non-subscription model -- I prefer to own rather than rent :)

Ideas?

Another #3DPrinting design that gets daily use - a bag drying rack. Perfect for silicon or reusable food bags. You provide the chopsticks (or even print your own :) )

Today I learned a neat trick. While listening to music from my Macbook Pro on headphones, I wanted to turn the volume up 'just a little bit'.

It seems the default volume control is 1/16th increment per step.

But, if you hold down Option and Shift ( ⌥ ⇧ ) while adjusting the volume, then the increment becomes 1/64.

This also works for screen brightness and for keyboard backlight - if you still have that setting on your MBP. Mine doesn't :(

Jeff Wayne's Musical War of the Worlds
1978 Canada pressing

Can't seem to get enough of this album :) which, sadly has water damage/ mould on the sleeves and liners. Safely wrapped in new ones now but...

Question:
I've been using this vintage Discwasher brush since it was new.

I'm thinking it's not really 'state of the art' for record cleaning these days, so I'm looking for a modern solution that won't break the bank. Not interested in ultrasonic (currently). Maybe something like spinclean? Though the Ama$$on prices seem more than it should be worth.

I'm cool with mixing my own cleaning liquid, just looking for something that will let me clean the occasional flea market find to the point where they actually could sound good :)

Thoughts on good cleaning ideas?

So the closure of home.social (see https://home.social/@admin/110419949340787839), from my memory of the recent musings of the admin, is another example of a sizeable instance closing because of admin burnout (partly, IIRC, from admin/instance infighting interestingly).

So given that account mobility is still imperfect, and frankly probably annoying and confusing for many people ... is there anything better that can be done?

Hmm, not sure of all the detail and nuance needed, but it seems like an opportunity for a personal backup process to be developed.

I'm thinking that since the data is all personally migrate-able, shouldn't it be possible to do half a migration every X days to a 'backup' instance or some such?

The half I refer to is the copying of the data to the backup. The other half is the removal of the account from the source instance - which we don't want in this case.

Done cleverly, the destination could be something like GitHub or a cloud drive provider (for online storage) or to a personal local drive.

Seems weird that this isn't already possible.
