Well, yesterday was a very satisfying day's shooting. Up early for a dog walk to the Downs, met with some very lovely low-lying cloud, back home, back out to the Downs, met with a mate of mine for a book swap, then out again. Very lovely!!

The botanical gardens in Funchal, Madeira is one of the most amazing places I've been to. At the top of a cable car ride, you're presented with everything from cascading watersfalls to flamingos, to oriental gardens to african statues. It's a wonder.

I wouldn't mind getting back there at some point.

Have you ever walked past a scene and just had to stop and study before taking a shot or two. Such is the case with this scene. It was in Puerto de Mogan, and was halfway up some steps we were climbing to a 'viewing point'. I know I normally shoot in mono, but I was just captured by the light and the colours. Love it, love it, love it.

The sand dunes of Maspelomas are just something else. The fact that the sand was shipped into place is astounding, but the dunes give an other-worldly feel to the location, which is great for shooting anyway.

beecham,

@elkarrde Thank you very much. It's definitely one of my favourites from the trip.

beecham,

@sugarfuel Well that's very lovely indeed

The port at Gran Canaria is a beautiful thing to behold, particularly when the fog hangs low. It's has an atmosphere that I've not often found elsewhere. I love the fog rolling and obscuring the mountains and hills in the background.

Morning all. I'm grabbing a coffee. What can I get you?

beecham,

@Dave2022 Full English is the way to go. Give me 20 minutes to rustle something up for you. Assuming you're Irish, with wanting the white pudding instead of the black?

beecham,

@Dave2022 There we go. That's more like it.

beecham,

@Walkaholic @Dave2022 Well, if we're going all-in, I'll throw in some tatties and neeps whilst we're at it.

beecham,

@Dave2022 @Walkaholic Yes. If you argue that it's ok, then it's a lifestyle choice and you should seek help.

...unless you're in an airport. Apparantly there, all rules go out of the window.

What great Mastodon web clients are there? I'm trying out 'Elk' which is a bit of a twitter clone. Are there any good ones I should be looking at?

Deep inside the Anaga Mountains, the clouds hang low and create such atmosphere that it's difficult to shoot it badly. Everything is so vast and high, and wide and deep that it's also hard to know where to point your camera for the best scene.

I'm a new Mastodon user, and I'm a designer, and in really not liking the Android apps on offer. It's not a deal breaker, but I have a thing for good design, and I'm not seeing it in the apps I've downloaded

beecham,

@ParadeGrotesque I've actually just uninstalled it. It just feels like an old Android app. At the moment I'm trying Megolodon, which seems to be the best from what I've tried. It's a cleaner UI, which I prefer

beecham,

@ParadeGrotesque For me, it's all about breathing space. Not cramming too much into the screen makes for a more pleasant reading experience. Well designed icons, use of colour, etc.

beecham,

@arkadiusz These are absolutely gorgeous. The light in these is just sublime

So, the first post is always a tricky beast to master. You don't want to go all-in with telling everyone everything, and you don't want to be deliberately vague.

I'll just leave these here, as this is more or less what I do.

With 1.5 we will be deprecating the legacy editor, and continuing to invest in the new editor we launched two years ago. We're making way for exciting new features like table editing coming soon.

beecham,

@obsidian SO nice to have just joined Mastadon, and find that Obsidian is on here. Also...small touches, but the fact that the two UI colour palettes are almost the same is a massive win.

For all new (and "new" users), if you don't like the default Mastodon user interface, you don't need an app, there are web-based alternatives, here are a few I've been using…

Elk.zone - https://elk.zone
Phanpy - https://phanpy.social
Sengi - https://sengi.nicolas-constant.com

Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, test it out and see what works best for you! Or you can try **Firefish **(https://firefish.social).

beecham,

@elkarrde Thanks for this post Neven. It's a journey that I've been on since joining Mastodon this week. For the web (I prefer web over native on my MacBook!), I actually really like the official MD app. Took me a short while to get used to it, but I kinda dig it now.
