Why are people upset about #economy even though it’s gotten better in 2023 from NYT “The Daily” podcast:

  1. 20% <~ consumer prices are up in last 4 years
  • “sticker shock #inflation” such as groceries & gas
  1. 47% <~ home price increase in last 4 years
  • hard to buy first home and rent is up as well
  • car loans high & college repayments resumed
  1. 50% <~ get news on #socialmedia esp TikTok
  • what performs well in social media is negativity
  • misinformation numbers on “Silent Depression”

I want #Mastodon to do well. I love how this place works.

But… I like people and engagement even more.

Currently, there’s lots of engagement at #Threads because there’s literally more people there.

Will it last? Who knows.

In time, I hope to be able to combine both Mastodon and Threads. #activitypub

@liztai completely agree. wiser people than me say you can only handle friendship with about 400 online contacts. I’ve been online for close to 30 years. friends everywhere. I need to find a place where they’ll all be. :)

Is still don’t see much engagement on Threads. All the big accounts are posting what they post on Twitter first, or also, but not seeing a lot of conversation going on.

@shoq whether Masto, Bluesky or Threads, they’re all different in engagement. depends on subject, people and timing. It’s been an interesting. as always, though: wherever you spend time is where you find benefit.

@shoq #Threads has really picked up in past two weeks. they’re furiously adding features and awful bots are under control. Masto is stable for me for likes in popular hashtags but conversations have slowed. #Bluesky great for gardening and baseball conversations. I don’t miss the Bird Site. At all!
