friend made an interesting point: "I don't like it when artistic/creative programs show some splash screen with some very professional looking result, it should be something like children's drawings or something simple that invites drawing, not some slap in the face of every artist that ever opens it that isn't at that level or just doesn't want to see other people's portfolios." (paraphrased)

I wanted to refill my small gas torch, but the grocery store didn't have refill gas bottles.

..so I bought a bunch of cheap lighters with big tanks, and connected those to my empty gas refill bottle to drain them into it, and then used that to refill my jet torch :blobcatgooglyfingerguns:

.. anyone some literally unused but inexplicably empty lighters? maybe I'll use the piezo elements for a project or something, it feels like such a waste to throw them out 😅

dear dutch farmers: government regulations around nitrous oxides may be a pain, but realize that the south netherlands is currently MORE POLLUTED THAN FRICKIN NEW YORK, we are one of the most NO2 polluted areas in the entire fricking world, up par with South Africa, and I promise you it's NOT just the cars doing this

@VickForcella Farms definitely emit NO2/NO3 (especially with nitrogen based fertilizers), N2O, and NH2. Industry also emits specifically a bunch of NO2 which is why you see the german Ruhr area light up and Amsterdam/Rotterdam, but the southern parts of the country and towards belgium is actually primarily farmlands and I refuse to believe that it's all tractor exhaust ^^;

Also part of the NO2 comes from NH3 and N2O decomposing/metabolyzing to NO2/NO3 such as in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrifying_bacteria

Well now that AI has ruined all the results, it was probably more useful back then.

@lowqualityfacts I mean, you could only really find the big people that registered themselves in the indexer/crawler, there wasn't much internet to begin with so everything was much more basic and finding things was hardly a challenge compared to nowadays. Also I think they actually removed the AI overviews thing again because of the backlash :P

is a shadow an object?

(mathematics)

anthropy, (edited )
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@RedstoneLP2 in a game or other software? maybe. in real life? it's a distinct lack of photons so arguably it's even less an object than the light that was cast by the sun or some other object..

..it could be considered a scientific object (It can be studied and measured, and its properties can be described scientifically),
artistic object,
Phenomenological object (It has a shape, size, and position in space, making it seem like an object)
and dependent object though I suppose?

anthropy, (edited )
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@RedstoneLP2 as far as I can tell, in n-dimensional geometry, shadows are used to convey projections from higher dimensions to lower dimensions, e.g from 3d to 2d, or from n-dimensional to n(-1)-dimensional

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@RedstoneLP2 Hmm, I guess yes in the mathematical sense, but not in the real-world sense?

You can reason about a slice of an object cast down into a lower-dimensional space as if it's a separate object, but it's really just a limited perspective on an object with more dimensions. I suppose you could compare it to certain types of engineering and science, there are cases where you might exclude certain dimensions from your analysis, focusing only on the dimensions relevant to your measurements

Time to switch!

➡️ Google Chrome has started to limit ad blocking with Manifest V3.

@Tutanota just my two cents, i would've personally not put Brave on that list, but that's me, otherwise nice list I think https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_(web_browser)#Business_model#Business_model)

Intel you bunch of lying cheating extortionist capitalist hellmongers, I hope you get sued over this https://hackaday.com/2024/05/31/intels-anti-upgrade-tricks-defeated-with-kapton-tape/

Remember how Z170/Z270 boards could only be used with gen 7 CPUs because they weren't compatible? Yea that was a lie to sell more hardware.

Is it a good idea to add an egg to instant ramen and just mix it in so that it gets scrambled with the noodles? I've never done it but it feels like it could be good..

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@njion yea that's actually something many people do, just make sure it gets hot enough that bacteria get killed, but even if it's still a bit soft that's fine.

I cracked an egg into instant ramen and then added hot water many times, never gotten sick from it before, but yea salmonella is good to keep in mind with raw egg of course :)

anthropy,
@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz avatar

@njion yea that's definitely completely fine, I also did that many times before, egg and noodles are definitely a golden combo in many ways :3
