❌ "The middle-class is shrinking."

✔️ "The working-class is getting poorer, while the ownership-class is getting richer."

Lower, middle, and upper class definitions simply divide the working-class into income levels, focusing on how much they make rather than how they make it.

This does nothing but divide workers and distract from the real issues of how they're exploited. There are two classes that really matter: the working-class and ownership-class.

Solidarity to ALL the workers!

I’m not looking to treat Mastodon like WebMD, but there are a lot of smart people on here, so I figured I'd see if I can find anyone who has any idea what's wrong with me.

Back in August, I got a cold. It wasn't COVID, but it was a sore throat, runny nose, and cough.

After about a week, everything was gone except a mild, dry cough (almost like a tickle) that makes me cough several times an hour.

My breathing has also been weaker since the start, but not terrible. I don't have a history of asthma and I really only notice when I intentionally try to inhale and realize my lungs don't appear to have the same strength or capacity they used to have.

After about two months, I went to the doctor to ensure all was well, but she was just like "Sometimes coughs linger. Here's a prescription for allergies and acid reflux in the event it's any of those things."

I don't have a history of either, but I was willing to try anything so I took everything for a month, but the cough never subsided. I also had a chest x-ray which looked normal.

It's now been 4 months with this dumb cough and I feel like a baby for complaining when it's not THAT bad, but still annoying to have had a cough for that long, especially during a time like COVID when everyone is on high alert.

I should note that whatever this is doesn't appear to be contagious because I've been coughing nonstop for four months and my husband never got sick.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and/or what I can try to do to get this cough to subside?

allanwolfe,

@Alice
I am having/have had a similar problem. I had a productive cough for seven months. I saw my GP, an ENT many times (plus functional endoscopic sinus surgery), a pulmonologist twice, and a chiropractor. What finally helped was Zyrtec daily. Incidentally, I also discovered through an immunoglobulin test that I am apparently allergic to dairy products, which is especially disheartening since I have been quite happy as a lactotarian (lots of cheese, ice cream, half and half, hot chocolate). Good luck.

Does ANY other country have to spend so long looking for themselves on drop-down menus? It could be Britain, England (or Scotland, Wales, NI), GB, Great Britain, United Kingdom, UK - spread right the way though the alphabet - and I’m sure there are a few other variations.

I’m tempted to start adding up the amount of time I waste on this, and making a colourful little gauge that tells me how many books not having that time has deprived me of.

Really tired of "we must adapt to this new reality" takes in response to horrible people doing preventable things.

    Fuck that.

Make anti-vaxxers adapt to 20th century medicine. Make selfish people adapt to living in a society. Make billionaires adapt to paying their fair share. Make climate deniers adapt to science. Make conspiracy theorists adapt to reality. Make fascists adapt to getting punched in the face.

The rest of us aren't the ones who need to be "adapting."

Just finished: "Death in Brittany" by Jean-Luc Bannalec. 3/5 🌟 🌟 🌟 The best thing about this was the food descriptions. Other than that it was pretty boring. And a lot of awkward wordy phone conversations. #mystery #BookReview

    allanwolfe,

@tashasounart My wife and I are very fond of Bannalec’s Brittany stories. I love the way Bretons take credit for every advance of Western civilization. The novels do tend to move slowly, but I regard that as atmosphere. I love that Dupin’s executive assistant often saves the day through extreme organization, creativity, and competence plus her extensive network of friends and relatives.

I get wanting the #mystery, but the notion of the #LochNessMonster is absurd. There isn't some giant unknown #species lurking beneath the waves of Loch Ness. There can't be. For there to be a #creature, there has to be a #population that has proliferated and thrived for many, many years. It would have to be a large population with biological diversity that exists as part of a larger food chain. If it was real, there would diverse evidence of the species, but there's not.
