So our new fascist government is going to double down on our already horrible asylum policies:

  • No decisions about granting asylum (it already takes ages now)
  • Asylum will only be temporary
  • More forced expulsions
  • Resisting expulsion will become illegal
  • No automatic family reunification
  • No appeals in court cases
  • No priority for refugees in housing

Also I'm assuming the abysmal living conditions in refugee locations are only going to get worse.

Down with this government

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@JoSuus Fuck, not surprising, but fuck... Did they decide on a PM yet?

Also, gotta love that the VVD is now full mask off on who they are willing to work with. Let's hope they set a record in the time it takes to collapse.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@JoSuus So, I'm guessing the PvdA continued their descent into neoliberalism?

I left NL 8 years ago, and I must admit that I've been following local politics instead of the ones of my native country, so yeah, I've been out of touch.

@JoSuus

Fair, it does play well in the populist narrative of the PVV. "See even the left has people that agree with us"

After she told everyone to compromise on genocide and to “grow the fuck up and vote for Biden” she pulled a Nancy Pelosi…. Mastodon is crawling with Blue Maga.

@LALegault
The worst part of it, is that despite all his fucking bullshit, I'd still wish Biden would win.

Iow, having to vote for the lesser of two evils sucks.

I don't follow news from my home country much, but I just saw that the coalition is going as fashy as possible. With the liberals (note for Americans, liberalism is not left wing in most of the world) being the most left wing party in the coalition.

Yikes...

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

My hope is that the fash will make this coalition fall in record speed, proving to their base that they lied about all their easy solutions.

#Dutch governments tend to fall easier than most, which is a feature, not a bug.

It’s true, Gen Xers are now the most MAGA generation.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@LALegault

We all like to think that OUR generation would never vote for the fascist party or strong man. But we do tend to live in social bubbles that make us think that, and then you see a group of people in your generation that all are a huge fan of voting for the fash, for one reason or the other.

The #cybertruck is one of the best schadenfreude products I've seen in a very long time.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@adnan Yes and no, I'm not a fan of how we elevate cars in our culture, but most of them are at least competently built. The cybertruck is such a disaster, that it just keeps bringing entertainment to those of us who hated the concept and the person who forced it through from the beginning.

Where’s that one post about “people in tech have the weirdest computer problems” because I have a hell of a one to add to the list:

To turn my computer on, I have to unplug the power supply

Can you make sure that that cable actually leads to the computer?

To get a glance of the #aurora yesterday, I walked up to the #forest. When I arrived at the entrance, I looked into the darkness, and realised that going into a pitch dark forest alone is probably not the smartest idea I've had, especially as I'm very much a city person.

I turned around, and ran into some people who also wanted to see the aurora, so I partied up with them, We walked through the forest for a few hours, climbed a big hill, saw no aurora, but had a good time.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@JoSuus I'm just happy that I wasn't dumb enough to walk into a pitch black forest alone. That just seems like a great way to end up in the newspapers a week later.

Here's a reminder, EVs are not here to save the environment, they are here to save the car industry.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

"Nobody is being forced to buy them", except that is only half the truth. In many places you are forced to buy a car, because you simply have no other options. And yes, then an EV is the better option, but we should put effort in non-personal-car solutions, especially in cities.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

No, my point of the original post was that EVs are here to maintain the current car dependent status quo, just a tad less oil dependent.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@Thijs_Goverde Great point.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

Except people have been more environmentally conscious, and not making cars at least seem like they won't contribute to the climate disaster is important for the car industry.

I'd call it greenwashing, except that EVs are better than fossil fuel driven cars, even if not as much as people think.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

I am indeed talking about places where it's possible, but even then, imagine if all major population centres stopped commuting by personal car, and how much difference that would make.

That would offset the rural car use, and then some.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp Yeah, that's indeed good, I just find cars, even outside of the air pollution to be a very big downside to cities. One that is mostly not needed. Sure, there will be a need for busses, emergency and delivery vehicles, help vehicles for less-abled people, but removing personal cars in a city would improve the standard of living so much...

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

My fear is that it will be seen as an end goal, not a stop gap.

Nothing is as permanent as a temporary solution after all.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

The thing is, transit can easily be faster than taking the car. For most trips it is in my city, and in Amsterdam, taking the bike was almost always faster.

It also helps to have essential things like grocery stores, doctors, etc, spread out over the city, so that people can just walk for most things.

Even though my city is still too car centric when it comes to policy, most of my friends have no car, and their daily life wouldn't improve if they did.

ainmosni,
@ainmosni@berlin.social avatar

@CStamp

That's good to hear, the senate in my city has had a change of policy for the worse last election, so it can go the other way as well, sadly.
