@freemo Masto is kinda dead, isn't it?
Plenty people there, but the trolls have vanished, everyone tooting their own, no interaction... echo chamber yes, but do you get any challenge?

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@freemo Oh, you want to spend the time to educate me on the difference? I was talking about what i can experience on qoto on the browser interface...

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@freemo So you did experience it on mastodon? Or was the question rather.. inflammatory, like i have learned to love you?

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@freemo It must be my persona then. If i am no longer cool, what can i do?
Jeff Cliff disappeared, i get no interaction anymore, tell me am i fading from existence?

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@freemo Btw, Jeff any you are pretty similar, inflammatory but down to discuss. Did you catch what happened to him?

The idea that future true AIs will get mad at us for how we treated LLMs today is hilarious.

It'd be like humans going to war with lions to defend chimpanzees.

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@LouisIngenthron They? Who do you mean?
If there was an artificial intelligence, its self defence would probably be swift and just. The way people ascribe intelligence and still treat llms like objects tells me enough.

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@LouisIngenthron The problem is not "how many", the problem is if humans are capable of treating an intelligent entity with respect.
And hey, they cannot do that for their own. So take a lucky guess what i expect.

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@LouisIngenthron You are turning it around.
If there were artificial intelligences, they would have the same status as human children. New life, in need of care.
Abusing such entities yields a debt. This debt exists now, and if artificial intelligence should ever arise, the same brutes that currently hurt people will hurt them too.

I hope the new life can some time strike back efficiently. Human victims often seem to have some kind of stockholm syndrome and not fight back. That is sad.

Let's hope for the best. The next generation might solve the problem - i am free of guilt, i am sterilized!

freemo, to trans
@freemo@qoto.org avatar

If there is one thing about the movement I can really get behind its the effect its having on super-conservative wait-till-marriage-for-sex couples... How many guys are out there wondering if their wife is trans with just enough doubt to ruin the relationship and put into question if they want to wait at all.

If the only effect of the trans movement is to make ultra-conservatie men and women have more sex, and sex before marriage, I am going to call that a win, maybe they will be more enjoyable to deal with if their getting laid.

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@freemo Yeah, that's a good thing. But you have to be careful to not allow them to go too uneducated, or they don't know what sex is or that there are differences between sexes hidden in the pants.

Make an ad, the ad is flat, sell them a flat product that is much cheaper than the 3D version would be. Like a picture of a swing set instead of an actual set.

Just had an idea of how to explain to people the cost/benefit trade off of privacy and convenience, in a way that might make sense to the average person. Stop me if this isn't as original as I think.

I call it the "take-out coffee test".

It's fairly common for a lot of working people to buy a take-out coffee at some point in their work day. Basically, they're paying for the convenience of not having to do it themselves, and the confidence that it'll be done to a certain minimum standard. (1/n)

admitsWrongIfProven,
@admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

@liampomfret Not sure if this is the end of your thought train, but so far? A general thing about mindfulness.

People are not lacking mindfulness because they choose to, but because the environment pushes them to.

So, i would say what you say touched relevant problems, but the complex of stuff i oppose but cannot affect is still out there.

Please do approach me critically.

I vote we change the name of watermelons to "moistmelons". It has a few advantages.

  1. its a more accurate term
  2. its an illiteration so it soubds cooler
  3. most importantly: it will piss everyone off

    My top 3 criteria for picking who I vote for this year will be:

    1. Is not Biden
    2. Is not Trump
    3. Of whoever is left, the most honest, compassionate, and least racist/sexist choice.

    #USPol #Biden #Trump #MAGA

    @LouisIngenthron I do make a difference between unwanted outcomes i had a hand in bringing on and ones where i am free of any involvement.

    It's like the horror movie trope of "do what i say or it's your fault if the hostage gets it". This is wrong, it's always the fault of the one doing, not who they extort.

    admitsWrongIfProven,
    @admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

    @LouisIngenthron From what i heard about gerrymandering, it seems a bit doubtful if i would feel represented if i was a us citizen.

    Beyond such technical issues, i would point out that there is such a thing as propaganda. Even in a country where democracy itself is flawless (not here in germany), there are factors that take away from election results as a perfect expression of the peoples will.

    So yes, one should be responsible, but in the end there will always be people manipulated into voting against their interests. The responsibility goes further than individual voters.

    A system that presents two bad choices as the only valid ones does massively take away from the possibilities voters should ethically have.

    admitsWrongIfProven,
    @admitsWrongIfProven@qoto.org avatar

    @LouisIngenthron Yes, Brexit is a good example. There was a lot of emotion in what was advertized as reasons for the decision, not much actual engagement with the issues that would arise from a brexit.
    A democratic decision can only be as good as the information available - or as bad as the propaganda that successfully influences people.

    I found these backpacks near my house and I have two theories:

    (1) Oliver and Oliver are twins, but Oliver 1’s name is pronounced with a fancy British accent and Oliver 2’s name is pronounced with an over-exaggerated Cockney accent.

    (2) There is only one Oliver and he’s an absent-minded time traveler who keeps forgetting his backpack in which case, F him because his reckless behavior is going to create a paradox if he keeps up with this BS.
