I'm an infertile atheist. In a fit of desperation while doing IVF, I went into a church and promised that if I could have children, I'd have them baptized. I had twins and returned to fulfill my promise because of superstition. I was then told that because they were IVF babies, they had no souls and couldn't be baptized. So, I went back to my original FUCK RELIGION stance. 🙄

I straightened my hair for 50 years. I'm lucky I don't have cancer and I weep for my little girl and woman self who felt the need to do this.

I love my natural hair and it will NEVER be straightened again. I want to look like ME, not you.

@StillIRise1963 My first perm was a rite-of-passage, the start of decades of (cancer-causing) chemicals applied to my hair.

I stopped getting perms shortly before my dermatologist diagnosed my hair loss and attributed it to central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia. She said it's common among African American women. It's not genetic since African women don't treat their hair like we do.

I've been using a steroidal solution to grow my hair back, and I haven't had a perm in more than 10 years.

@StillIRise1963 Five is an awfully young age to have a perm; I was 13 years old or so. I wish we all knew then what we know now about perms. And thank goodness for the natural hair movement.

Do people still use counter-social? That place is a steaming pile of shit, I remember after it came out that the founder had trashed BLM and defended Darren Wilson, I made a post stating that the founders views were problematic and he should address them, and it resulted in the counter-social admins harassing me, which included one of them telling me he was going to go through my Twitter to find antisemitic posts and blocking him wouldn't do any good because he has multiple accounts.

I was responding to someone discussing NC Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who is running for governor.

On February 7, the platform discovered this 6-month-old post and maintains that I "shared or sent symbols, praise or support of people and organizations we define as dangerous, or followed them," while the post clearly states the opposite.

I've never been dinged for my posts. Frustrating.

Scholastic recently came under fire for attempting to censor an author's synopsis of her book, Love in the Library. The publishing house had a problem with her use of the term, "virulent racism" about the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII.

Seems like the purity scolders here on Mastodon have moved on from policing CWs to replies complaining about cross-posting and references to social media posts from other platforms.

Let's explore why this is really annoying. When you hijack a thread to scold the poster not only is it rude, you take the thread off in another direction. This is not cool. If you want to discuss something like cross-posting you are free to make your own post on the subject. Don't be a threadjacker.

@mastodonmigration If someone doesn't want to see postings or references to Twitter or other social media platforms, there is always the filter option available. That way, the reference isn't visible and there's no need to tell grown adults what they can and shouldn't post.
