I have 2 1/2 weeks of travel. Doing a bit of Belgium, & France, then getting Lisa so we can hike in the Dolomites.

The distance is only about an hour more than what it used to take us to go from the outside of Houston to Dallas.

Places in Europe are sooo close together!

Colmar, the fairytale-like-town, inspired the setting in not only Studio Ghibli's adaptation of "Howl's Moving Castle," but also Belle's village in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast."

It has a quiet vibe compared to other Alsace places we've been, and was just lovely.

Oeschinensee, Switzerland, was by far the best hike we did this year, and I'm excited to go back again in 2024.

The weather was iffy on our trip, almost all rain, but I'm super happy with how this photo turned out. It's my current wallpaper for my desktop and laptop.

The view from Wengen looking down on Lauterbrunnen.

One of my favorite place in the Swiss Alps, and it was a real treat to see it with the fall colors.

It's like whenever I leave I'm already planning my next trip (January). Living only a few hours away has been amazing.

Lautenbrunnen, Switzerland. This is the valley that inspired Rivendell in Lord of the Rings.

This is from our first trip last fall. I've been back four times since then, and it doesn't feel like I've gone back enough. It's a truly amazing place.

This is from my trip last fall to the Dolomites. I didn't get a chance to go back this year, but we are visiting them again next summer.

The golden trees are Larches, which are coniferous and seem to glow in just the right light.

Heidelberg's Alte Brücke (Old Bridge).

I tried to get a photo of the castle yesterday, but it was hidden in fog, though I did get this cool photo.

I have both lived in A LOT of places, and I think Heidelberg has been my favorite. I mean... it has a castle!

A year ago we took our 1st trip, after moving to Germany, and saw Neuschwanstein, and the Alps for the first time.

I've now seen dozens of castles and I wouldn't put Neuschwanstein in my top 5, but it sure is damn gorgeous, and the Alps are still my favorite about living in here.

The enclosed limestone bridge links the palace in Venice with the prison. The view from it's square windows was the last convicts saw.

Three Seasons of Grindelwald, Switzerland.

Fall, Winter, Spring. We go back in two weeks so I can get a summer photo and round out my seasonal collection.

I've REALLY enjoyed going back to the same place and photographing it multiple times.

Also I know we are really lucky to be here, and that it won't last, so trying to really cement the special places in my memories.

On our first day in Prague, we were lucky to see an amazing sunset. The sky was on fire.

Travel can be exhausting. Specially when it’s go-go-go and you are trying to see as much as you can before you have to move again… but when specially moments like this happen, and you are surrounded by beauty, it really helps to force yourself to just stop everything. Be there in the moment, because moments like the one, are rare and special.

We were just in The Alps again last week (friends from TX were visiting), and I think I'm already planning a hiking/photography trip for August.
