Good grief. In the light of #LaurenceFox's comments on #GBNews, #Sky #News decided to do a piece on the #GenderPayGap. They had a man and woman on to argue about it.

It came out, live on air, that he was being paid and she wasn't. Sky apologised and offered her £75, the standard fee for such an appearance. Then they offered to increase it to £200, the same as they'd paid him.

I've thought for a while that it would take a lot to persuade people to give up the convenience of cars.

This petition is calling for all public transport in the UK to be free at all times. It's a radical idea, but I believe it would have significant benefits.

My cover designer sent me the attached earlier, with the following question. "Why use a real cover designer when you can create masterpieces like this using AI?"

For those that don't know, the attack on Pearl Harbor was carried out by the Japanese. The planes on the cover are German Fw190s.

I've blurred the author name because I have no desire to cause a pile-on.

I've just left a message on my daughter's school absence line. I told them she is still ill and won't be in today. I then added that she won't be going in to do the SAT test, and we won't allow them to bring the test here for her to do at home.

Hopefully this will mean we don't get three calls today trying to pressure us into making her do it 😠

As I was walking the dog yesterday evening, I found myself idly wondering if @DreadShips had ever covered the Austro-Hungarian #FirstWorldWar dreadnought Szent István.

I don't think they have, so I thought I'd do a thread on her. I can't promise it will be as amusing as one of theirs, but I do think it's an interesting story.

In the early 20th century, Austria-Hungary was a major European power.

Gah. I've just visited a #SecondWorldWar group on Facebook, and the first two posts I saw were wrong.

One had a photo of a Sturmtiger claiming it was a Maus.

The other mentioned the Victoria Cross. It correctly mentioned that only one person won the VC twice during the war, but then listed how many VCs were awarded by country, and missed out New Zealand. Charles Upham, the man who won it twice, was a New Zealander.

I feel like I'm being trolled.

I recently heard a snippet of a news story on Radio 4, and I realised that our current politicians are handicapping future historians.

The story was about Nicola Sturgeon's WhatsApp Covid-19 messages being unavailable to an inquiry because they'd been deleted. Her deputy had his WhatsApp set to auto-delete messages, so his messages weren't available either.

I'm not very good at favourites, but a game I've only played once and would love to play again is Dr Who.

I GM'd a game for my eldest's birthday during lockdown, which included a guest appearance by a friend playing the Doctor. It was good fun, and really felt like Dr Who.

#Parenting question. We have two kids. The 16yo is #autistic, we think the 11yo is #ADD.

When one of them does something wrong and we don't know which one, they will both claim it wasn't them. We find that upsetting, because one of them is lying to us.

We don't want to punish. We want a conversation about what happened and why, and an apology.

But it can take days of asking before one of them admits it, and that time is horrible. How can we get whoever did it to admit it sooner?

The oldest #RPG we play (we have some older #BoardGames that still get played occasionally) is #RisusRPG.

Apparently it was first published in 1993, although I didn't discover it until about the mid 2010s.

So, as an antidote to that, I'd like to tell you a story about @clacksee being an excellent human being.

A while ago, she sent a message to her mailing list offering a large discount off any of her books when bought direct. I decided to use it to buy a couple of her books to use as prizes at the tombola that #Mermaids will be running at our local #Pride in June.
