I occasionally see articles and toots about being arseholes and generally behaving badly.

So, as an antidote to that, I'd like to tell you a story about @clacksee being an excellent human being.

A while ago, she sent a message to her mailing list offering a large discount off any of her books when bought direct. I decided to use it to buy a couple of her books to use as prizes at the tombola that will be running at our local in June.

I emailed her and asked if she could sign them. She replied to say yes, but there was no need to pay - she'd donate them, and she asked which books I wanted. I was grateful that she was going to donate them, so I told her the two books I'd planned to buy.

The package arrived today. It has the two books I asked for, but it also had three other books, and a tote bag. Every book is signed, with a note saying "Protect trans kids".

If you like "#SciFi without the pew-pew" or cosy London noir, I can heartily recommend her books.

I've read all five of the books in the photo, plus some others (mostly shorts that are only available as ebooks). They're all very good.

I know this is a long shot, but do any of you have a hotsync cable for a m100 or m105? My Palm won't sync reliably and I think the cable might have a break in it.

#OnThisDay in 1942, Warrant Officers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš ambushed
Reinhard #Heydrich and attempted to assassinate him. He was wounded and would later die in hospital.

The reprisals were brutal and swift, and eventually led to the complete destruction of the villages of #Lidice and #Ležáky.

#OnThisDay in 1917, the Austro-Hungarian navy attacked the Otranto Barrage. Three cruisers, two destroyers, and three submarines took part in the largest attack on the anti-submarine barrier. Of the forty-seven drifters on the barrage, fourteen were sunk and another four damaged.

Some drifters fought back, including the Gowan Lee, whose captain won the Victoria Cross.

Went to see Kiri Pritchard-McLean's stand-up show Peacock with the eldest last night.

It was very good, thoroughly recommended. Her support act was great, too.

If you go, take a few pens — she's collecting them for https://www.pensforkids.co.uk/

In a fit of nostalgia, I bought an old m105 from . I blame @neil — his stories of buying old hardware obviously inspired me.

Now to see what I can do with it, and if I can get it to sync with my 24.04 laptop.

#OnThisDay in 1942, British troops landed on the island of #Madagascar. The British assumed the French would pit up little resistance, but the subsequent campaign lasted almost exactly six months.

It was the first major Allied amphibious invasion of the #SecondWorldWar, with the first use of tank landing ships (LSTs), and the first use of tanks in an amphibious operation.

The Polish Embassy in London has released a series of interviews with Marian Rejewski, the first person to crack the #Enigma code.

He explains the process, including how they did it before they invented the bomba, and how the bomba worked. Fascinating stuff.
