Reinhard #Heydrich, one of the architects of the #holocaust, died #OnThisDay in 1942, from wounds inflicted by Czech SOE agents during an ambush some days earlier.
I occasionally see articles and toots about #authors being arseholes and generally behaving badly.
So, as an antidote to that, I'd like to tell you a story about @clacksee being an excellent human being.
A while ago, she sent a message to her mailing list offering a large discount off any of her books when bought direct. I decided to use it to buy a couple of her books to use as prizes at the tombola that #Mermaids will be running at our local #Pride in June.
I emailed her and asked if she could sign them. She replied to say yes, but there was no need to pay - she'd donate them, and she asked which books I wanted. I was grateful that she was going to donate them, so I told her the two books I'd planned to buy.
The package arrived today. It has the two books I asked for, but it also had three other books, and a tote bag. Every book is signed, with a note saying "Protect trans kids".
I know this is a long shot, but do any of you have a hotsync cable for a #Palm m100 or m105? My Palm won't sync reliably and I think the cable might have a break in it.
#OnThisDay in 1942, Warrant Officers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš ambushed
Reinhard #Heydrich and attempted to assassinate him. He was wounded and would later die in hospital.
The reprisals were brutal and swift, and eventually led to the complete destruction of the villages of #Lidice and #Ležáky. #LestWeForget
Family decided to watch a film together. Youngest fancied something #DnD like. We have Honour Amongst Thieves, but he chose the 2002 classic The Gamers. https://thetvdb.com/movies/the-gamers
After some issues, I installed an #ebook reader on the Palm m105 I bought recently. This evening, I used it to read Past Imperfect by @clacksee while waiting for eldest to finish at Scouts.
#OnThisDay in 1917, the Austro-Hungarian navy attacked the Otranto Barrage. Three cruisers, two destroyers, and three submarines took part in the largest attack on the anti-submarine barrier. Of the forty-seven drifters on the barrage, fourteen were sunk and another four damaged.
Some drifters fought back, including the Gowan Lee, whose captain won the Victoria Cross.
#OnThisDay in 1942, British troops landed on the island of #Madagascar. The British assumed the French would pit up little resistance, but the subsequent campaign lasted almost exactly six months.
It was the first major Allied amphibious invasion of the #SecondWorldWar, with the first use of tank landing ships (LSTs), and the first use of tanks in an amphibious operation.
My wife is in a small #orchestra (NULCO: Newcastle-under-Lyme Community Orchestra) and they have a chance to get a grant which would make a huge difference for them. Please help by voting, and by sharing the link.
They have #musicians of all ages and abilities, and play for the love of sharing #music.
