Good morning! Well, we had a successful trip out West, got back on the weekend. Also, I have a date for my surgery for my hiatal hernia (I'm still on the fence on that one). The hospital called while on our way back at 6 in the morning. We were in another time zone. Anyway, preadmission stuff is Wednesday and surgery next Tuesday. Wish me luck!

#sewing Trying my best to get a neckline sewn on my t-shirt. Having a hell of a time. I’ve looked at videos etc. but it doesn’t seem to come together. I have too much material —I’ve measured , done the math but it seems the neckband is still too short. I’m using a jersey knit but it also only stretches so far. What do I do???

I’m also really tired of talking about this as a Republican/MAGA problem. It’s also a batshit stupid Americans problem. I just talked to two college-educated neighbors, fundamentally progressive, and quite well off, who aren’t going to vote because “both sides say the same kinds of BS.” Argh!

@renzelen I knew it. I sometimes read articles from Yahoo news and often, The Telegraph will write articles about Justin Trudeau and you can tell they hate him. Not that I am his biggest fan either but the other choices we have for PM aren’t great. So they are right wing and having problems? Looks good on them!

Use AI if you want. I'm not here to judge that. Not ever.

But don't make the mistake of thinking that AI alone makes you a creator.

One of the biggest problems in modern discourse is we keep saying "But" instead of saying "And"

Example: "Hamas committed murder but IDF strikes have killed innocent people" immediately sets up justification and whataboutism.

Whereas "Hamas committed murder and IDF strikes have killed innocent people" gives us objectivity and a realistic world view that doesn't justify anything.

@thetyee Just so you know, I don’t give a damn about Facebook or Instagram blocking my news. I am not on Facebook, I use Instagram not for news but for hobbies I’m interested in. I have never used Instagram and when I had Facebook for news. I have always gone straight to the source.

@augieray I don’t get why people think kids don’t spread Covid. I’m a retired junior kindergarten teacher and those little darlings are nothing but germ factories! I once had a jk class that managed to get chicken pox —started with one then quickly spread to the others. For a couple of weeks, I had 5 children in the pm class out of 15. Everyday I’d get a note that someone was absent because of chicken pox. Children can spread anything!😀

#Today Good morning. It’s cloudy here. We had snow last night with some accumulation. I might be able to use my battery-run snowblower. Haven’t been able to use it (thanks to El Niño) since I bought it over a month ago (not that I minded as I’m definitely not a winter person).

I’ll definitely have to use it starting Tuesday with a prediction of a huge snowstorm; our first of 2024.

My dad is 76 living in an apartment complex in Indiana that as he puts it "is filled with old widowed women looking for someone to take care of." and half the time he loves it, and the other half he's trying to hide.

@augieray @chrisod I was one of those teachers who never got a flu shot. This was before Covid—way before. Of course, I was younger and even when I did get the flu, I wasn’t sick for a long time. Now, I know better but I’m no longer teaching. Also, at the time, I found when I switched grades or school, I would get sick the first year and then I wouldn’t get sick after that. Weird.

People who think fall is their favorite season have been gaslit by social media. They think it‘s all pretty leaves and sipping pumpkin flavored drinks on sunny walks. In reality it‘s a wet and gray shitshow that is depressing and one of the best arguments for a couple of months of cryo-sleep.

The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore.

It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that mostly isn't relevant...
