@gamingonlinux I havent heard of Lemmy. I’m open to it though, I do enjoy Reddit scrolling but I’m not afraid to delete an account when companies get too shady these days (already did it with Facebook, Twitter and discord).
In the same way that you wouldn’t want someone to operate on your kidneys without a good general medical education covering blood, bones & the rest of the human system, I don’t think we want climate interventions trialed by people who don’t understand how Earth works & only consider the local problem and not the whole system it is an integral part of.
@helenczerski isn’t that how Monsanto got sued for cancer allegations?
I could be wrong but I remember it being a wild thing that it was decided on by jury instead of scientific evidence.
It always kinda scares me when I read certain comments. They’re not numerous, but I see more of them each year. They say things like « the woke EU », or the « EUssr », or « socialist EU ».
They’re generally there when I talk about the EU regulating big tech, or fighting abuses of dominant position, and I just don’t understand how anyone can link that kind of activity to being « woke » whatever that means today, or being « socialist » (which in these people’s minds probably means « commie »).
@thelinuxEXP I assume it’s Americans making those “woke” accusations. Luckily it’s not as dominant in person as it is online (I think it’s a minority of extremists making a lot of noise) but it does get tiring seeing the weekly dogpile against “wokeness” every week.
@majorlinux and people act like I’m paranoid because I won’t connect my tv to the wifi lol. It’s redundant to me in the first place since all my devices stream but I don’t like the tv itself being yet another form of data farming in my house.
@majorlinux im surprised a data leak is possible that way lol.
Maybe one of my grandparents have a dusty ol’ pc in storage but I wouldn’t even be able to use a floppy disc in this decade.
@majorlinux I get what they were going for. Seemed like they were trying to super charge people’s personal libraries so that they wouldn’t feel the need to open steam. That being said it clearly hasn’t panned out, I keep forgetting that has Epic installed on my PC at all.
@gamingonlinux same for me, it’s the reason I don’t care for twitch either. I get that it’s not exactly the same but watching someone else play just isn’t entertaining to me
Mastodon is great, the only thing I miss on this app is quote posts. I know they have a bad rap bc of Twitter, but every major social network has this functionality for a reason (Tumblr, LinkedIn, Facebook, IG). As a journalist, I’d love to add commentary and amplify great info, build on ppl’s points, etc. You just can’t do that the same wait with replies! Is there any chance we might get them on here?
