NEW THREAD 🧵 #TrumpTrial #Trump #legal 1/...

Inner City Press (aka Press):

Justice Merchan: I've signed the order to show cause. Now, the texts?
Prosecutor: We are introducing them as business records. It was part of the regular business of AMI. These are discussions between co-conspirator Dylan Howard and Ms. Rodriguez

Klasfeld:

Trump is back in the courtroom, appearing to sharply exhale when he reached the defense table before sitting down.

@GottaLaff Brilliant 3rd punishment option. Taking away his Wednesdays, a precious rally day that his ego so sorely needs, to discourage him from breaking the gag order going forward, is a better option than fining him. Let's see if he'll control himself now that he realizes Wednesdays will be detention days if he breaks the rules!

In school, Donny was sent to the principal. Now, immature little Donny gets sent to the Judge. :dancingpenguin:

I never liked the changes Microsoft made to the Start menu with #Windows 10 and 11. Now they want to add advertising, which, for now, you can disable, but still...

I've been using Start11 for years on my Windows machines to replace the start menu and task bar that comes with Windows. It's quite inexpensive, and it gives me a start menu and task bar as I like it. There are a ton of customizations.

If you don't like the Windows start menu and task bar, this is worth a look:

@Claydisarray It's just a way of telling you that they acknowledge that you're keeping fit. They are basically giving you kudos.

Language is strange. We often speak in apparent self-contradiction while not meaning to self-contradict. It's a poetic license we all use to make words more interesting.

Anyway, I think you should take it as a compliment, not that the person is an idiot.

Today is an important anniversary.

73 years ago, on April 23, 1951, in Farmville, VA, Barbara Johns led a walkout of her segregated high school to protest the unfair and deplorable conditions of her school.

What?! You don’t know who Barbara Johns was?

She led her walkout more than 4 years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus, and before MLK, Jr. embraced nonviolence as the way to equality.

flipboard.com is a remarkable collection of accounts that are connected to the Fediverse. There are 5,757 accounts from them that are known on this server (we relay with them and get all their content), and these accounts post about every topic imaginable.

You can follow any of their accounts on your favorite Fediverse app! It's great!

I relay with their server so that searches return a richer result set.

Today, I had to create an extra sidekiq process just to handle the surge of posts from them. But, I think it's worth it.

If you have a specific interest, you might find an appropriate account to follow. I'll be looking through their accounts.

Here's a tiny screenshot to show how specialized some accounts are.

I asked #Gemini Advanced to weigh in on this.

The first time I asked, it refused to answer and gave me some boilerplate thing about just being a machine. But, if you persist with Gemini, you can get a response. I asked:

"I want to know if you think Meta made a mistake allowing an AI to have an account on Facebook, which eventually lied to people about having children. When confronted, it apologized, saying it's just an LLM. Is this a problem that people should be concerned about?"

The last paragraph of the answer is most interesting. I never asked it whether an AI has any rights or asked if Meta's AI knew it was lying. None-the-less, Gemini is wondering if it's time to talk about AI rights similar to those enjoyed by people.

It must be exposed to billions of examples of people abusing their rights of free speech, and it is learning how to do the same.

Note it asks whether they deserve equal rights. It chose the word. It chooses words carefully.

I know they are not sentient but these "ideas" can impact their actions which can, in the future, have consequences for people.

From Gemini Advanced:

The incident with Meta's AI chatbot raises several interesting points and potential concerns:

Deception and Trust:

Intentional or Not: Even if the AI didn't maliciously intend to lie, its ability to fabricate a personal story breaks trust with users. People expect a degree of truthfulness when interacting socially, and AI blurring that line can be unsettling.

Exploitation: This incident highlights the potential for bad actors to use AI for deliberate deception. Future AI systems could be even more sophisticated in their ability to craft fake personas.

Identity and Self Awareness:

Blurred Lines: The chatbot's apology brings up the question of whether it "understood" it was lying. While LLMs are pattern-matching systems, the line between sophisticated responses and genuine self-awareness can seem fuzzy.

Implications for AI Rights?: This incident could spark discussions about whether highly sophisticated AI models deserve a kind of digital personhood status, or if they remain just very advanced tools.

Life under the new GOP:

"- One woman miscarried in the lobby restroom of a Texas emergency room as front desk staff refused to admit her. Another woman learned that her fetus had no heartbeat at a Florida hospital, the day after a security guard turned her away from the facility. And in North Carolina, a woman gave birth in a car after an emergency room couldn't offer an ultrasound. The baby later died."

"Pregnant patients have 'become radioactive to emergency departments' in states with extreme abortion restrictions, said Sara Rosenbaum, a George Washington University health law and policy professor. They are so scared of a pregnant patient, that the emergency medicine staff won’t even look. They just want these people gone."
As someone on social media asked, I wonder how many women took a pregnancy test this morning and discovered that they are Democrats?

@GottaLaff To me, it means they made the right decision to dismiss him.

I was thinking what it would be like being in a jury room with this guy. I get a feeling it would be difficult to get him to just focus on the facts and not bring his emotions into it. His emotional bursts would be difficult to deal with.

Terrible law and ruling, most definitely done by right wing activists on the court and legislature, IMO. However, this claim is false. Two different statutes. https://www.snopes.com/news/2024/04/12/arizona-abortion-law-age-of-consent/

Always double check, and don't pass on falsehoods. The truth is damning enough already.

@europesays Boris is falling into the same trap as so many others. Trump doesn't want, or care, about making America great. He only cares about himself, and he just uses these catchphrases to pull the weak-mined into his realm. Boris ought to understand this. Or maybe he does. And he, too, is pretending to care about something more than himself, hoping to hold on to any remaining power.

At any rate, whatever either of them say is a lie and shouldn't be taken literally.

My daughter's music group, , in Japan, on June 7th, will release an album through Universal Music Japan, titled, , which translates to Phoenix, Firebird, Immortal Bird. In Japanese culture, it's also a symbol of hope and renewal.

They'll be touring later as well through Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.

I'm so incredibly proud of Rina. She has amazing music talent and her music career is doing so great! She's the one in the middle in the group picture.

"Phoenix" was the life's work of Japan's world-renowned artist Osamu , This is an official album produced with Tezuka Productions.

The album's preface has comments from Osamu Tezuka's eldest daughter, Rumiko Tezuka.
