It's got all the signs of another #crypto vaporware grift. And I find it hard to see how this helps fight oppression when one of their examples is focused on serving the needs of global capital.

Global capital has a REAL bad record when it comes supporting communities...just sayin'. Adding crypto in doesn't help.

I did look at the holochain website before commenting on the link you actually posted, but it was all just web3 buzzwords and a description of services that makes about as much sense as an MLM sales pitch.

Reserve Accounts & Swap: How it Works We expect the largest variations of supply to happen through Reserve Accounts. The supply of credits expands when a reserve account (such as the Holo organization) sells hosting credits for a correlated outside crypto or national currency. Reserve Accounts have a special algorithm for expanding their credit limit by committing a Proof-of-Reserve record to their chain to demonstrate receipt of a payment in the accounts’ correlated outside currency for Holo credits. The outside funds are then held in reserve for network hosts who receive credits from purchasers of their services. Any credits redeemed through a Reserve Account must have been earned for providing hosting, which can be confirmed by auditing hosts’ Proof-of-Service entries and transaction histories. While Reserve Accounts may temporarily expand the supply, they only do so in response to increased demand. As hosts redeem their hosting credits, the supply decreases again. The expansion of the supply raises liquidity for hosts giving them an opportunity to cash out increasing perceived value.

Ok man. I hear a lot of big promises and you telling me about apps in alpha that do very unimpressive things that can already be done in a much simpler manner (but one that doesn't involve crypto). Their vision may be impressive, but that's been the story with crypto from the jump, hasn't it? Making big promises, while only ever delivering crappier, more wasteful versions of things that already exist, if anything at all. Again, this has all the hallmarks.

The more I dig, the more 🚩 I find.

Let's take a look at their Project Spotlight: RedGrid - an app that promises to save you up to $0.30 a day on your power bill by telling you when the best time to use power is. It sounds utterly useless. And the comment section is full of, "You guys please burn 100 billion Holo Coins, wayyy too much on the market. I am supporting you. A true Diamond Gem." and "Burning tokens means price increase! HODL HODL HODL!"

@sam I guess I'd call social.coop a consumer co-op that runs a platform, in the same way that a food co-op is made up of customer-members (usually) and runs a brick and mortar store. Or it could be conceptualized as a "shared service co-op" with social media being the service. I'm still unconvinced that "platform co-op" is it's own category, like worker- or producer co-ops.

I've never heard anybody use "creator co-op," and to me that would probably just be another name for a producer co-op.

@sam I believe the name for that is "shared service co-op." For instance, a co-op whose purpose is to provide low cost accounting services for it's members. Basically, all the members of the co-op pitching in to buy a service they all need together, at a lower per-person price. Jim at GEO is very into this model of co-ops.

The types of co-op are only limited by our own imaginations! My mother, for instance, was part of a babysitting co-op when I was a kid that ran entirely on poker chips and strawberry daiquiris 😂

Lol. You don't understand it. I've got a degree in neoclassical econ and let me tell you, MMT is far superior as both a description of actual financial system behavior, and as a predictive theory. MMT is based on accounting identities and studying the way banks actually work. While I was taught banks simply intermediate between savers and borrowers, transferring $ from one to the other, that's not how banks actually work. Talk to a banker if you don't understand.

Or maybe, just maybe, the CEOs are also large shareholders in their companies, thanks to modern compensation standards.

Boards keep voting to overpay CEOs because of Compensation Consulting firms, who they hire whenever they are looking for a new CEO. The CC firms tell them what the average compensation package is, and they - figuring that if you want above avg performance you need above avg pay - pay above avg. Thus the avg increases regardless of performance.
