    @thepoliticalcat you and I both know you understand it’s not as clear cut as that.

    Also there’s enormous coercion built into capitalism, the most basic of which is the constant, legalized threat of homelessness and starvation which coerces people into jobs they don’t want.

    Capitalism also coerces you into to becoming a consumer, through multiple means. Forcing specific choices might be difficult but even that isn’t impossible through monopolies. I only have one ISP in my neighborhood. If I want to have an internet connection, I am forced to use that one. Technically I can choose to move somewhere else with better choices, or I can decide not to use the internet from home, but that is depriving myself of its utility. The very mechanism internet service is setup has coercion built into it.

    It's pretty common and tiny, but I am fascinated by the psychology of someone entering a room where someone else is happy and saying "Oh, isn't it dark? Isn't it cold?" and then turning on the lights and the heat without really checking (or caring?) if the person already in the room was comfortable.

    And most of the time, I’m already aware of the thing that needs to be done like a week before everyone else became aware and had been struggling to get it done ever since.

    And god forbid I am the one to ask someone else to do something for me, even for our mutual benefit. Then suddenly I’m demanding something I’m very capable of doing myself. It’s as if society collectively decided I am capable of any known and yet unknown human endeavor, except for needing help.

    The reasons for this are numerous, with alexithymia & being conditioned to not express yourself primary amongst them.

    I'm asking because I'm trying to assess if I'm #ActuallyAutistic. There's enormous overlap between my 40 year life experience and those reported by many autistic adults. However, there are also many points that I feel I differ greatly, this being one.

    I am very sensitive to my emotional state and the changes I go through. I can deeply analyze, reflect on, and express my feelings.

    I also don't like to, due to being raised in an environment where keeping to myself served me better. I always felt that sharing my problems and vulnerabilities with other people, including my family, led to more trouble than support I could use.

    So I do relate to being conditioned to not express myself but not to alexithymia.

    So I heard Threads was going to be on the fediverse and use activitypub and stuff but I haven't seen a single post that I know to be from that network so

    kudos to their one distinguishing feature for being broken at launch that's great product management

    It might be because of defederation and stuff but the entire point of product management is to see what's coming and adapt

    @pleaseclap yeah, I see where you're coming from.

    I think what happened was, they released way earlier than they originally intended to because they thought they had a window when Twitter was rate limiting and reducing all sorts of access left and right.

    It Twitter didn't have those fuckups, I believe Threads wouldn't have been released yet.
