Republicans are against anything positive that advances the rights of most people, especially if it happens to advances the rights of minorities. And as long as Republicans remain in power, they will persist in their regressive, oppressive tactics against minorities, women, and anyone else they fear pushing back on their corrupt power structure.

By refusing to tax corporations, and refusing to raise the cap on income that is taxable for Social Security, the republicans are purposefully trying to bankrupt the US.

Corporate taxes should be at least as much as individual income taxes, if not moreso.

And there is absolutely no excuse for cutting social safety net programs when corporations clearly are not paying anywhere near their fair share of taxes. Not even close.

It's a scam.

I was just thinking about learning how to drive. I learned how in cars with manual transmissions. Now days we are hard pressed to find new cars with manual transmissions. I'll bet most people born in this century don't know how to operate a manual transmission, probably most towards the end of the 20th century as well. Here's another thought, try to find a new car with windows that you crank up by hand. Hmmm ... I remember the first car that I bought where the dimmer switch was on the column instead of the floorboard, it took me a while to figure that one out.

The -controlled had the least productive year in history. They took 724 (performative) votes but only 56 ended up as laws. House member salaries are $174k per year, which is about $100k more than the average salary in the US. Why are we paying them so much to do so little? They should be paid the Federal of $7.25.

@bookstodon #amreading etc. Here is my Tentative reading list for 2024. I am for 12 novels a year, but life, writing, my family, it can all get in the way. For '23 I read 12 things, but they weren't all novels, so thats a half pass. The list:

Any sequels I'm up to (3 trilogies in this case), lotr i read recently but I loved it so much I'm thinking of doing it again. Dispossessed was on 23s list.
