@jon i’m sorry, but I disagree with you. Threads can be an introduction or a steppingstone to federated social media. It’s inviting because you can find people that you follow on other social media sites such as Instagram. Mastodon can be a little daunting for somebody that doesn’t quite understand what it’s all about.

Just started playing with the #Pipilo client on iOs. It’s voiceover accessibility is superb so far. I just can’t figure out where to find notifications.

Xbox head Phil Spencer hinting pretty explicitly that future Xbox consoles will allow third party storefronts and potentially support for playing PC games.

Combine this with similar hints that they’ll have a Steam Deck-like portable Xbox as well and Microsoft might finally have a differentiator from Sony and Nintendo that can move the needle for them.

@MuseumShuffle this happens to me frequently when dealing with website design problems. Most of the time? I’ll wake up, not be able to fall back asleep, and then I’ll solve the problem in my head. Then I’ll promptly forget about it by morning. 🤷🏻‍♂️

While I wrote @PleaseDontRain to track the weather on a day that’s important to you, more than one person has requested to be able to see some statistics about other days as well. Because of this I’ve added a “Nearby Days” section that shows some statistics about the days near your tracked day.

I couldn't figure out how to mark the tracked day because I was running out of space in some scenarios when I used an SF Symbol. Font weight to the rescue!

We are closer to shipping Ivory v1.9! The big feature for this release is the ability to quote posts. If you'd like to test it out, jump back on the TestFlight version of Ivory. We've opened up some more TestFlight beta slots here as well:

@ivory are there any voiceover accessibility fixes in this release? For example: the search bar being broken at the top of the screen, and the timeline not loading properly. About three post down it will give voiceover a loading dialogue and it will kick you to the status bar.

@ivory I have one more thing for voiceover users. Is there any chance that you guys can clean up the notifications tab? It is really complicated for voiceover users to navigate. If if we could interact with it just like the main timeline, that would be a big improvement.

Fuck I hate the phrase "start a family" to mean "having / adopting kids". Children do not define a family.

Family is what you make it. Could be a significant other (or others!). Could be chosen family.

Straight people: children are great. You do not need them to have a family.

@gairdeachas my thoughts exactly. There are days I feel like I’m silently being judged by families that have more than one child. Me and my wife simply couldn’t have children, but yet we’re not considered a family to a lot of groups.

I hope to have this in the App Store soonish. I’ve been using it locally on my own iPad to test the updated networking code, so far, so good.

It also includes a much requested UI tweak. 😄

@paul @mark @todd @ivory the search button is broken to Voiceover users. It auto expands and shows all menu items without interaction from the user. Also the label for the menu button seems to be missing.

@Blindworrell Hey Ed, I’m adding left and right arrows that let you quickly switch to the previous day or the next day. What do you think would be the best voiceover labels? Something short, such as “previous” or “go back”? Or something longer such as “go back to January 5“?

@MuseumShuffle i’m gonna say something like previous day and next day for the corresponding buttons. I don’t think it needs to be super complicated with throwing in the date into the button title.

Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to discuss my experiences with gaming without sight with the dedicated Able Team. It was fantastic engaging with such a caring and thoughtful group. I’m passionate about technology and enhancing , it was a joy to share insights with them.

I got to talk about making more casual games accessible to the blind. Not all of us want to play huge open world titles. Sometimes we just want to sit down and play, and not have to remember where we were at. This was an important factor to me, as I have to remember enough stuff throughout my day being completely blind. I don’t wanna have to remember something I did in the game a week ago because I haven’t had the opportunity to play for a while.

Does the Apple TV app (on an Apple TV unit) really not have a way to turn off auto play of the next episode? 😵‍💫

That’s the first thing I disable with any streaming serving.

Turning off auto play previews under accessibility doesn’t seem to be related (which makes sense).

@MuseumShuffle yeah, now that you pointed it out, it’s gonna bug me ☺️ I personally leave the settings on, but I understand if people don’t want them on too. It should honestly be an option.
