I've been quiet here, but I can explain...
Last year we were lucky to buy a piece of land and old manor house near our farm. The place you see in my pictures is not our land, we have a lease.
So we were planning to expand to the second location, which is about 20 minutes away, while retaining the original place. Over the past few years we invested a lot of of time and money there, but in the end things worked out differently.

One of the partners in the farm, whose land we were on, wanted to focus on other things so we decided it would be best to move the whole farm to the new location. On the one hand that means rebuilding all the basic infrastructure and a new market garden from scratch which means a lot of work and investment.
But on the other hand it'll be on our land and we can integrate all the lessons learned over the past 4 years, so that's exciting!

Overall I'm very excited but also tired as you might imagine. Moving a farm is a lot of work... And we're not even halfway done. Luckily we have the lease on the original location for at least another year so we can maintain production while resetting.

I'll try and document as much of the process here!

@compost I've got a pile of roughly 2-3 tons of half composted weeds and other material. I didn't have the time to pay attention to it and it never went thermophilic. So I have a massive amount of viable seeds in there. What would be the best approach to "re-compost" this pile?
I have a large pile of composted manure that probably still has a bit of composting in it and if absolutely necessary I can source woodchips (2-5cm chunks) or sawdust.

The world would be a better place if we had more people doing what Charles Dowding @CharlesDowding1nodig is doing with his Homeacres.

Using #compost as a deep mulch system creates truly beautiful gardens and transforms the landscape.

He always has been an inspiration.

@compost I agree, but a caveat from personal experience :)

In dry, hot climate like ours in Barcelona province, the compost dries out and becomes hydrophobic. I tried applying Dowding's techniques here and the results were okay but we really struggled from June to September and lost a lot of compost cover. The main reason Dowding doesn't use deep mulch like Stout seems to be slugs. We don't have that problem so we're adopting deep mulch even though it complicates using the paperpot planter.

It seems silly to call countries "developed" when all their critical #infrastructure will be obsolete in 30 years and they've not been adapting. "Developing" countries are much better adapted for a #LowEnergy future.

@Brendanjones Absolutely, I didn't mention that bc I take it as a given 😂 I'm especially interested in the fact that mainstream "resilience" scoring of states is so wrong. Just like the famous pandemix preparedness map before covid...
