Return to Alflynd: Hyperspace Corridor
Five years ago, I'd have been jumping straight for Alflynd - taking the crystal to the mages at the Academy , eager to help my people.
I wasn't that person anymore.
I needed to think about what to do, what would benefit me the most. I needed to talk to someone I trusted.
Return to Alflynd: Apostate Interior
Incredibly, even on the Apostate, as long as I was near the crystal, I had some level of magic - My body was the only thing that contained the necessary nanites, so I couldn't affect the environment, but I could perform simple spells on myself. If it worked the same for others, it would be incredibly valuable on Alflynd.
Return to Alflynd: Self Reflection
I'd been the best mage in the academy, off-world for the first time as a graduation gift, when the accident took my arm. If I'd been home, it would have been trivial to heal it with magic, but I was systems away. The doctors made the call, and my right arm was replaced with cold steel. I lived, but there was no point in going home - I was sure that part of my life was dead.
Return to Alflynd: The Ascent
There was no questioning - The crystal wanted me to take it. It knew me, down to an atomic level, and had chosen me. The only question was, for what?
Without magic, getting out of there might have been tricky - but with my power restored to me, it was barely an inconvenience.
Next level world building, a thread. I’m experimenting with digitally painting directly onto a 3d sphere to lay out the geography during world building. I want the world to have a realistic distribution of continents, that I can the project with distortion that a cartographic projection such as Mercator brings (this is a simple cylindrical projection here). I also want the geography to be at least linked to some geophysics. #worldbuilding#cartography 1/3
(1/2) I have migrated to mstdn.games, and so I am writing a new #introduction.
I'm a long-time gamer, my first console being the NES. I was eventually introduced to TTRPGs via Robotech and AD&D 2nd Edition. These days I play mostly retro video games.
Before games were books, and I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to a school librarian who connected me with that wide world of learning.
Finally, thanks @britt and staff for creating this space on the internet! 💙
I started to block out a new continent tonight, no plans to use it any time soon. The landmasses started out as English parish and district council boundaries taken from OpenStreetMap.
I'm Venia Silente, a #fanfiction writer but also more of a #worldbuilding person with a taste for adapting concepts across franchises. My main body of work is for the #Pokémon fandom where I have been participating in one-shot contests since 2009 and also am a worldbuilding consultant.
Can be found on #PokéCommunity and #AO3 majorly, sometimes elsewhere. Can be talked to over XMPP/Jabber. Can also play Nintendo #vidya .
