This was a photo study from 2023, that I took on quite spontaneously one afternoon, painting along with artist and streamer Maddy Bellwoar. She takes the nicest photos and then works them up in gouache. https://www.artbymaddy.com I took a quick timelapse that you can see in this Mastodon post: https://mastodon.art/@helenmclaughlinart/110900345089071908 || #DigitalArt #DigitalPainting #Art #FediArt #Nature #Woodland

Here's another shot from our walk last Friday. It's the River Bovey, as it passes through Lustleigh Cleave.
It's a beautiful and tranquil spot for #silentsunday
We saw only two other groups of walkers in our four-hour expedition.

If anyone has any spare cash, please consider donating to this good cause. It's a beautiful area of woodland bordering the UK's biggest current rewilding project at Allestree Park, Derby. This green corridor is up for sale and threatened by developers.
If you can't donate, please share..

A very leisurely bimble today along the River Dart from Newbridge, through Holne Woods to Sharrah Pool (a popular wild swimming spot, although not today 🥶) and then back.

#walking #GetOutside #Dartmoor #river #woodland

View from a high vantage point above the river Dart looking upstream towards high, mostly brown moorland hills. The river is fast-flowing with riffles of white water. The banks either side are densely wooded with natural woodland, mostly oak and beech, their branches bare and grey. A few spindly branches frame the shot. Copper leaves litter the ground immediately in front, with waxy green leaves of rhododendron on the edge of the cliff, which drops to the river below. The sky is cloudy blue-grey.
Photo at ground level of a view up river where white water rushes over dark granite boulders. The banks are lined with more, mossy, boulders and bedrock. Trees extend down to the water’s edge. Branches bare and grey almost touch over the span of the river. Some trunks are entwined with green ivy. A small beech tree stands on the left, still clothed in copper leaves. The sky above the v-shaped valley is pale grey.
Photo of a still pool in the river, the view downstream. Granite boulders line the bank on the right, providing a good sit spot. There is a green shrub on the right in the foreground - looks like broom maybe. The river bank on the left is steep and rocky, the slope carpeted with copper leaves which have fallen from the trees clinging to the side of the valley. The sky above the valley is pale grey and cloudy.

So much today!

As the weather for the upcoming week is predicted to be "mostly water themed" (rain, snow, fog: assorted humidity) it's the perfect time to transplant some from to the .

It's not ideal to transplant so early in (there will be -0 cold snaps) but at least they won't be transplanted right before the now inevitable early spring 4-8week Denmark gets.

Photos: about 50 horse chestnuts 🌰. To be planted tomorrow!

The now empty plot where the trees enjoyed their childhood. Now to figure out what next to plant there :-)

Another early digital piece from 2013. This was referenced from a photo I took at Druidale, Isle of Man. A very special, beautiful place in the mountains.

The leaves of ferns are called fronds and when they are young they are tightly coiled into a tight spiral. This shape, called a ‘koru’ in Māori, is a popular motif in many New Zealand designs.
