Yesterday, I wrote to #Target to tell them that their decision to cave to anti-#LGBTQ bigots by removing some #Pride items from their stores made me feel unsafe shopping with them. Here's Target's response (join the conversation by writing to abuse@target.com):
Candy aisle at #Target… huge, but no hard peppermints. 🤷♂️ Profit maximization means lack of diversity in the end. That shelf space can be used to sell something else with a higher margin. Perfect efficiency! 🙄
#Target, who is well known to OutOfExile_IDR - Invisible Disability Rights for acts of #ableism, has now turned it's sights to exclude the #LGBTQIA+ community. If you'd like a t-shirt printed with sayings that force religious beliefs or threaten gun violence, no problem. If you want certain "pride" clothing, Target says, not in our stores.
The retail tyrant... I retail mean giant, announced "it was taking some LGBTQ-themed merchandise off the shelves", citing "anti-LGBT threats". They seem to be making it clear who their preferred "Target market" is. Who will they "Target" next?
Target and Kmart are going through a "silent" merger.
They've both been owned by Wesfarmers since 2007.
Unlike a normal merger when one store rebrands the other and some locations are closed, a silent merger means they'll just share the same head office and be under the same umbrella, but still two independent brands.
Silent mergers often turn into full mergers.
If that happens, since Kmart is the weaker brand, it means Target would eat what was left.
Target is closing stores because of theft, violence. A lot of stores face huge problems with theft. It drives up their overhead costs, having to get security, repairs, replace items, and more. It leads to price increases that everyone else has top pay for to make up for their losses, and makes life difficult for the employees.

Target is scaling back LGBTQ+ merchandise this year after "right-wing backlash" last year. It can couch this decision in all the research-supported logic it wants, but it's still a capitulation to bigots. #Target is betting those of us who support equity will be more accepting of this decision than bigots will of the retailer carrying #Pride products. Those who care need to raise their voices and make their wishes heard by curtailing their spending at Target.
The last 3 months have been a non-stop conveyor belt, not really sure if it was going anywhere or if I was burning the candle at both ends for no reason.
Well it was worth it. It just took some grit, suffering, and trust in the idea we were making the right decisions. This Tuesday, after 10 years, 18 countries, and 2 kids, we're moving the family back home to #Target, #tacos, and sweet 110-120v. We're headed to #Colorado.
There, I will join #DenHac and #DC303 and hopefully live in the comforting fact that we don't have to move ever again if we don't want to.
But first, I will return to #Germany, alone, to pack up the house and put a car on a cargo ship hoping to return permanently some time in August. Hopefully, I can arrange the timeline to reward myself with #hackersummercamp before beginning my new job. I just have to get this house cleared in time.

Trump’s #lawyer stood in court in late Aug before Tanya S. Chutkan & told her he planned to challenge Trump’s case as a #PoliticallyMotivated#violation of the #FirstAmendment that would be decided by residents of a hopelessly “biased” city.
“I can’t wait,” #Chutkan responded dryly.

I'm reading about the boycott of Target and some of the incidents that happened leading up to Target pulling merchandise from their stores and I went from relatively calm to completely angry in the span of a couple of minutes.
I keep trying to type something longer and eloquent but I'm so angry that I don't know what to say. I hope Target's stock completely tanks and that the boycott continues. I also can't believe how many childish adults are alive in this world and think throwing a tantrum in a store is a good idea.
