If you haven’t heard them I highly recommend you listen to RDGLDGRN. Ridiculously catchy beats with often time very poignant lyrics. Mixed in with nerd references all over. And to me they have one of the best live shows around!
Can anyone #recommend a good blood pressure monitor that works neatly with #AppleHealth? Ideally no pointless extra accounts or data harvesting. #AskFedi
@Floppy When you say "works with Apple health", is "just typing in the numbers" an acceptable value of working? If so, any of the myriad of 30 quid jobs at the chemist will be more than fine.
I'm looking for recent books that give a good overview of the evolution of all languages / language families. Something between a textbook and a large-audience essay.
Reading: Wild Girls: How the Outdoors Shaped the Women Who Challenged a Nation – On Screenwriting and Media with Dr. Rosanne Welch
As the semester winds toward the holiday season more time for reading opens up and I love finding new books to read – both fiction and non. My Thanksgiving read this week was Wild Girls: How the Outdoors Shaped the Women Who Challenged a Nation by Harvard professor Tiya Miles.
In this short book, she traces the way playing in the outdoors shaped the lives of several American activist women from Harriet Tubman to Louisa May Alcott to Native American writer Zitkála-ŠáNative/Gertrude Bonnin to Dolores Huerta. It added female names to my list of women to be remembered and reminded to get outside this holiday season and play in the dirt.
Okay, #plant people, mostly I like native plants but we are doing our backyard more traditionally, and the landscapers had a communication failure that led to some plants we wanted to save getting cut down. One of these was the old rambling rose with pink and red striped flowers that smelled really good, rosey without being perfumey. I was sad. But now I need to find a rose to replace it with, I like most colors but I like an old fashioned look, rambling, messy #flowers, nice smell but not intense. I might get a #California wild #rose but for various #horticultural varieties, what would you #recommend?
#tsohost have suddenly announced that they are putting up annual #prices by a factor of between 5 and 10. As a poor #student with no #income, I cannot afford this!
#Recommendations anyone? I need basic features like #email but nothing fancy as my personal website #domain doesn't get a large number of visitors or emails.
@CenturyAvocado@secular we have shared hosting which does web + email + shell access, but it's not based on cPanel - it's internally developed. Has features like free automatic SSL, mysql database, pick your php version, exim mail filtering and so on.
Uhhm can anyone of you #recommend me #wireless (no Bluetooth) #headphones / a #headset (mic is optional) with great sound (and some kind of #surround or positional audio)?
Data & charging must be done via #USBC and if there are software settings, these also must be saved on the device.
I already looked at the Blackshark V2 Pro, but apparently the software needs to run all the time... - Otherwise it looks really great (apart from the price :nkoHehe: )
This is a major factor into why I chose to focus on edutainment for TILvids, why we curate our creators, and why we are going to have a very selective #federation approach. Other instances (and services like Odysee) have tried the approach of having almost no limitations on the type of content allowed, and it almost always leads to the same types of toxic outcomes.
I have no interest in #tilvids falling into this same cycle.
Nice piece by Doctorow. For me, the essential point is that no single for-profit entity is capable of mediating the interests of all of humanity, or even 10% of it. It necessarily puts its interests ahead of all whom it purports to serve.
