I love my #raspberrypi army (1xPi1, 1xPi2, 2xPi3, 1xPi4, all running different things), but on a drunken whim I ended up sniping a bare bone Intel nuc5i5ryh for $20 and threw in ram/HDD i had sitting around and that thing is a beast

threw #proxmox on it and have basically consolidated the functions of all those #Pi boxes into one VM with processing and memory to spare

best $20 snipe ever

I made good progress on the collaboration project with @Jorvon_Moss over the weekend. The Orin Nano boots up the servers and WiFi hotspot automatically. You just need to run Hopper Chat on the . No internet required!

I have two choices to run Home Assistant on my future . With HAOS and as a Docker container. My idea was initially HAOS, but the Pi5 will be equipped with an SSD, have 8GB and may be able to take on other tasks. That's why a OS Lite 64 bit might be more flexible. Are there any major advantages to HAOS (apart from being efficient with resources)?

Has anyone already decided this for themselves?

Deep joy. Greedy RealVNC is taking away the ability to use more than three copies of it at home, free. I shall, of course, switch to TightVNC. I expect they thought aged hobbyists had loads of money they could grab...

One of the most fundamental yet little-known features of FreeBSD is its ability to be used in read-only mode very easily. By installing the system on a UFS file system, you just need to modify the fstab file, change "rw" to "ro," and reboot. On the next boot, the system will automatically create mount points in RAM for the main directories (/tmp, log, etc.), and it will run perfectly.

This was the main reason why, many years ago, I chose FreeBSD for almost all my embedded systems. Even today, on my Raspberry Pies, I keep the SD cards in read-only mode and use external storage in read-write mode. This ensures that, in case of an unexpected poweroff, the system will come back up, and there will be no wear on the memory card.

sigh I really need to come up with a reliable and inexpensive way to power cycle some equipment remotely.

My is up and running but the two software defined radios aren't responding even after rebooting the computer. The computer was involuntarily power cycled twice yesterday when the power went out and when the backup generator transferred the house back to the grid after grid power was restored.

Or maybe the SDRs need to be reseated in their USB ports? 🤔

Pomocy, nie wiem co i jak zrobić

P.S. Jak coś to mam też malinkę 4b w najmocniej opcji, jakby trzeba było czegoś mocniejszego

SSD harddrive appears to have died on my home network's RPi 4 DNS server and for some stupid reason not a single device automatically started using the secondary. Whats the point in a secondary if nothing bloody uses it!

The family was not amused at the downtime. Made much harder to diagnose by the RPi being headless.

If anyone has advice on recovering a BTRFS superblock from an LVM I'd appreciate it.

#navidrome on a #raspberryPi 4 is:
cpu load of 0.25 using 125 MB of RAM streaming FLAC.
the rpi boots on an SSD + homemade iscsi storage.

it is absolutely amazing. goodbye streaming services, hello old CDs :)

I love the CDs as objects 🥰 I don't have that much CDs but just my Holy Trinity : all the Beatles studio albums, almost all Chili Peppers and some Queen. Plus other pop-rock recordings.
But I'm often using streaming services, particularly while biking 😁

I am looking for a way to turn an old TV into a smart (Android) TV, while keeping my privacy & on a budget. Does anybody have any suggestions/ideas on how to do that?

caos,

@raptag You could connect a to the TV (via hdmi). For example, Kodi Mediacenter can be installed on the Raspi or a general distribution with Freetube etc.
