@RL_Dane
You could close some web browser with vim commands and key bindings. There's a couple of web browser that use vim keys by default, the first one that comes to mind is Qutebrowser, but there's others too. In this way you can avoid the disappointment and being confused why my keybindings doesn't work⁉️ 😅😜
✔ Fix sluggish rendering in #qutebrowser following #qt upgrade from 6.6.3 to 6.7
Problem: qt.force.software_rendering was set to "qt-quick"
Solution: Set qt.force.software_rendering to "none"
Story: Trying to watch Netflix (People Just Do Nothing) after the upgrade, qutebrowser played the video at a low framerate, lagging behind the audio which it played fine. Smooth scrolling was also choppy. Falkon, another qt-webengine browser, handled it all fine. Downgrading qt to 6.6.3 worked around it.
In light of #Mozilla#Firefox news, I guess the only way forward is to reluctantly use a decent Chromium (or #Blink)) based browser with a custom user-agent string eh?
I'd love to know @Vivaldi 's opinion on if AI is the future for browser clients (I'm praying it's a firm "no" 🤞🤞)
I suspect #qutebrowser will be safe for a long time yet though
Just in case anyone is interested or better still has some tips on my newly setup #VoidLinux#ZFSBootMenu laptop which is a #ThinkPad Gen 1 P14s AMD with 16Gb ram. But I'll be upgradeding shortly to the full 40Gb. Anyway here is the output of arc_summary and free -h . If I run btop it deducts the arc ram used so without that and running 17 tabs on #Qutebrowser and one foot terminal I'm using 2.62Gb but with free -h it shows as 6.5Gb which obvs is for zfs usage. #ZFS
"Time flies! Today (2023-12-14) marks a decade since qutebrowser's first commit. Last year, I've written about how it all came to be.
This year, I'd love to hear from qutebrowser's users who aren't usually active in its community! If you want to say hi, fire up your good old IRC client, or use the webchat below (follow the link to have hints).
While I appreciate all the work #ublock has done, my preferred way of watching #youtube has been with #qutebrowser launching #mpv when I click on a video.
Re-running a poll I saw on Mastodon a while ago, before various migrations. Just collecting numbers, not seeking advice or anything. Please boost for reach.
So me, a LibreWolf user (LibreWolf being based on Firefox), really felt the need lately to move away from Mozilla due to their past decisions, which also contributed to Firefox's decline. Being paid big bucks by Google to have its search engine as default and not really having much other choice in keeping the project alive too, makes me increasingly uncomfortable about its future.
So I was looking at #qutebrowser (which uses vim-like keybindings) for a little while now and, sure enough, on the #archwiki there are some tips on improving its privacy and ad/tracker blocking capabilities, so I went with some of the options there (there's even a global dark mode setting in there, which I absolutely like). So far I'm absolutely loving the experience! Don't see myself switching to much else for the time being.
Now I just gotta get used to the keybindings themselves.
The article I mentioned earlier: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Qutebrowser
So the issue I'm having with the latest #Qutebrowser not playing GIFs is to do with the gst plugins good, bad, ugly and or the QT5 backend and I'm running with the latest QT6.
If i force Qutebrowser to start using the QT5 backend everything works fine.
I'm a happy camper as have got a work around for my issue running #Qutebrowser under #Qtile#Wayland which wouldn't allow me to upload images to Fosstodon if the window was tiled. Although this work around works the issue is still being kept open for now by the devs until they find out why.
For those it affects just pop this into your floating layout config:
Match(func=lambda c: c.is_transient_for()), # automatically float a window if it has a parent
Here's one for all you #Qutebrowser users.
Why won't gifs play in my qutebrowser but they do in firefox ?
All i get is a blurred image even if i click on it ?
@JustineSmithies I did a quick test of an image upload in #Qutebrowser here on Fosstodon, and it didn't have any issues that I could see. Is it giving an error message of some kind?
A further follow-up, two months later: I am regularly using QuteBrowser. Not for my main browsing, for which I still use Firefox. However, for certain quick lookups, #QuteBrowser is great for blazingly fast web lookups where I don't have to spend time moving wiggling the mouse around. My Words Per Minute is much higher than my Mouse Wiggles Per Minute.
Thank you again for introducing me to this web browser.
Woke up today and it seems quite dark still. Looked out of the window and it's blowing a gale and absolutely chucking it down with rain !
So I guess that I won't be cutting the grass today then.
In that case today is going to be all about #python aka getting #qtile - #Wayland running on my dual screen setup and looking to see if I can get the latest #Qutebrowser built and tested on #VoidLinux
