As both a #crew96 fan, and a #ClevelandGuardians fan, I was inspired by the print linked below to create my own sign to show my support for the Crew on my desk at my office at work.
So, I fired up #inkscape to make the SVG, and then #freecad to create the 3d model that I then 3D printed. I printed the yellow part separate and glued it in.
Straight Duplo track of 12 duplo studs, equal to about 120 LU (Lego Units, one is 1.6mm).
We (me & son) need them to build looooong bridges ;-)
This one is a test run. If it works more or less ok, i'm gonna print few more.
It was generated and fine tuned from a OpenSCAD model available on Thingiverse.
I have my own brick OpenSCAD script, which generates better print models, but my script is inferior in parametriztion and it's not that easy to integreate it.
Okay I have to say having thumbnails for all #3dPrinting / #CAD files is an immense help and very satisfying, especially when drag'n'dropping files around or into :prusaslicer: #PrusaSlicer for example 👍
#3DPrinting experts who use OrcaSlicer: PrusaSlicer has the ability to 'bind' print and filament profiles to particular printer profiles, so they don't show up for you unless you have that printer profile active. Can OrcaSlicer do something similar, and if so, how?
I did this in #PrusaSlicer using the dependencies and filters using text present in the Notes section. So I used FILAMENT_ABS and FILAMENT_TPU and then associate profiles with filament types. But as far as I am aware this isn't possible in #OrcaSlicer
This is just one example of some of the Xmas gifts I'm #3dprinting this year. I made the SVG in #inkscape, the 3D model in #freecad, and sliced with #prusaslicer.
Oh, an ugly bug with #OrcaSclicer, and adaptive slicing, and tree support. With adaptive slicing, the tree structure is too small.
Without adaptive slicing, the tree support reaches the painted area.
Btw., also #Klipper runs in calculation issues (the max layer amount and current layer is not in sync with variable layer size), but this tree error in Orca is a more certain bug.
@Stark9837@3dprinting I was aware of the peg feature in PrusaSlicer, but I didn’t think it would work if your model was too large for the build plate? Am I wrong about this?
Part of the reason I opted to make this for #freecad was for people not using #prusaslicer . Also, for more precise control of locating the pins by allowing them to be parametric.
So I am designing an enclosure for my new DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor and my SGP40 AQI sensor, and got this great idea.
I have used the function to print without top and bottom layers in order to create a grill before, but didn't want the entire top to be open, but still wanted some air flow to be possible. So I got this idea.
In the lid of the enclosure, I made two separate cut-outs, but exported them together. In #PrusaSlicer I then imported them as separate components and printed the two cut-outs without top and bottom layers. See the screen shots below!
Today I learned that Cura, PrusaSlicer, and all the PrusaSlicer derivatives I have found ignore internal voids in STL and OBJ files when slicing for #3DPrinting. (I would like to know if I've just missed an option for honoring internal voids.)
PrusaSlicer and its derivatives do honor those internal voids in STEP files. Cura does not support STEP files.
I was going to publish STEP, STL, and OBJ files for my next project, but I might give up on STL and OBJ and only publish STEP, because it is designed with intentional voids with internal features.
STEP files are the best for sharing designs and .3mf files for print files.
I actually recently printed something for a friend, and he could simply share his .3mf file with me. I opened it in #PrusaSlicer and simply changed the profiles to my printer. The print and filament settings remained the same, and everything worked out great.
@beandev
@janhelms
