How better and cheaper software could save millions of dollars while improving Canada’s -care system.

"Billions of Canadian tax dollars have been funnelled to private companies to develop proprietary medical software. More tax dollars were then paid to the same companies to use the software to run our medical system. "

I'll let you in on a little secret: #Canada doesn't have a #national #healthcare system.

What? you say.

Each #province and #territory has its own system. 13 systems, all different in nontrivial ways.

Each covers different things, and some to different amounts. There are also exception cases and other weird stuff galore.

And then add in employer-based group plans - supplemental health benefits - and it gets really squirrelly.

SK covers some vaccines, not others.

With a tenth of the population and workforce, they think they are owed half the country’s CPP. This should be a last straw insult. Canada should have its own referendum on kicking Alberta out, land-lock them, stop subsidies and payments, impose its own charges for anything flowing out, sue for all damages from excessive emissions and say good riddance.

cazabon,

@StitchedInkMedia

Actually, it represents a pretty normal approach to #valuation of #annuities and #pensions.

The method is: if the #province had not joined #CPP, but instead maintained its own plan (like Quebec), had exactly the same #contributions as it did with CPP, got the same rate of return on #investment as CPP, minus everything paid out of CPP? The reports actually went further and discounted the value of those payouts to get the lower number, even though it's not in the formula.

@cazabon a different interpretation suggests 16% is more realistic, including the potential risks involved. This one doesn’t include trying to take advantage of the rest of Canada.

    This isn't some wild claim and a #WAG of a number on the part of Alberta.

    That number is what you get when you apply the #official #CPP #formula for a #province withdrawing from the plan. i.e., it's the correct amount.

    It seems high because #Alberta's #contributions to CPP have been historically much higher than average (good jobs, low #unemployment), and their proceeds from it have been much lower than average (low average age).

    It's realistic.
