Tip, all the nut jobs lead their manifesto with getting rid of #ULEZ, despite the fact that it's been a great success
I'm honestly amazed at the altright extremists this year, openly advocating for more white supremacy and trashing of anything that would make life better for Londoners
Today in Labor History March 18, 1970: The first mass work stoppage in the 195-year history of the U.S. Postal Service began on this date in New York City. The walkout was illegal, giving President Richard Nixon the excuse to send in federal troops to sort the mail. But the strike succeeded in forcing Congress to raise wages and reorganize the postal system and marked a new militancy among postal employees.
I miss when packages took like a week to arrive and there was no overnight postage nonsense (unless you paid a lot for it). Now it is industry standard and I need to be ready to get my package the next day, like...I need at least few buffer days to prepare emotionally.
Also the tracking system is not great and telling me it can come between 8-16 is NOT HELPFUL.
I an up at 8 only in case it arrives now.
Madness, I tell ya.
The real issue in the review of #postal services is not the Q. of Saturday deliveries... it is the possible ending of the universal service obligation in its current form.
if flat rate national postal rates are ended, this will empower the Post Office's competitors to ramp up differential pricing across the country, as the PO will be doing the same.
If the #Tories manage to skew the debate to the continuation of six day deliveries, the effective end of the USO is what they are trying to hide

In March of 2023, four scholars came together to discuss the role that Postal Genealogy can play in historical research, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution's National (USA) Postal Museum.
Sources like the United States Postal Service's own Publication #119 "Sources of Historical Information on Post Offices, Postal Employees, Mail Routes, and Mail Contractors" are linked from this program recap.
So earlier this evening, my partner got a notification that a #package had been delivered to our #CanadaPost#community#mailbox -- i.e. in a separate delivery from the usual mail during the day.
I went out to check, and indeed they had left the #key for package compartment "2B" in our box.
With the key snapped off right at the base of the big plastic "gas station bathroom key attached to a cinderblock" fob...
I knew he didn't have it because the online tracking showed a "delivery attempted" at 7:50am, and this was hours later.
I figured out what he was doing - at the start of his #shift, he'd mark every package on his route as "delivery attempted" and fill out all the door cards, and he then dropped the packages off at the Shoppers Drug Mart before even #starting his #route!
I'd complained about his #antics enough times that a #postal inspector/supervisor had given me #contact info.
Oh btw the new #postal mailing changes happening on the 9th of July are going to be having a major change on how mail gets around #Alaska , there is still a lot of things up in the air right now but the sure thing is that more and more of our mail is going to be going and coming by barge and that the service standards for mailing into the holidays at the end of the year are going to be a nightmare for logistics and peoples wallets. https://faq.usps.com/s/article/USPS-Ground-Advantage
