So - I managed to shave a minute and a half off #ParkRun! Felt pretty good. I think that's the best time in about a year. I'm not quite back to previous fitness levels (4 minutes 20 faster) and can't quite get round without stopping, but I'm pretty happy with that, considering there was 700 people and we were quite far back and couldn't really start running for the first straight. Also it was very icy! Also the dog ate my homework! It wasn't my fault miss, I didn't even do anything!
So beaming you all the very best. To the runners. To the walkers. To the ones that don't do anything like that but continue to breathe! To those who don't continue to breathe! Let's hear it for all the ghosts and zombies out there. May you all have a tremendous weekend. I love you all in a deeply weird and disturbing way. X
#intervalrunning with 4:1: intervals (4' slow pace, 1' fast pace) x6
I'm getting faster but I have to weigh this with a grain of salt because yesterday I took an unplanned rest day. Rest days considerably and positively affect my performance.
Mmmh, now wondering if I should take 2 consecutive rest days before my 10k race on March 17th.
Not my fastest 10k but I had fun. Like a crazy lady I sang for 8 km 😂, then I decided to pick up the pace a bit for the last 2 km.
It was raining, windy and most alleys in the park were blocked due to a triathlon competition.
So no star shape either today 😞.
Nevertheless the good thing with bad weather is less groups of people going for a walk and taking up the whole alley width.
@Wen It was a run in the park 😉 I've only found out recently that #parkrun is a thing, but I'm against general terms appropriation (like threads, seriously why don't they just invent a new non-misleading name?), so I will just continue using the hashtag for my regular #running sessions, since they're all in a park!
The latest statement from #parkrun is good, but am I asking too much during #LGBTQHistoryMonth for them to acknowledge that loudmouth bigots are blaming the stats removal on the participation of trans and non-binary individuals? They've kind of alluded to it by saying that the only reason the stats were removed was because they celebrated only fast runners and this was neither inclusive, nor parkrun's priority. But just explicitly support the LGBTQ+ participants. C'mon. https://www.parkrun.com/blog/news/2024/02/14/an-open-letter-from-russ-jefferys-ceo-parkrun-global/
Not that my opinions matter but I need to have my say on #parkrun
I turn out for health reasons, self-esteem and mental health.
I love to see where I've come in my age category and I'm happy to be grouped with other people my age regardless.
The company of others with the same mind set is great. It's a lovely community.
If a person wants to get out on Saturday and exercise, this is a perfect place to be.
I hear that the Daily Heil is continuing to harass a trans athlete and use her image (without her permission) in regards to the news that #parkrun is stopping publishing fastest times in a table format. I'm waiting on permission to share her own words, but she has confirmed that she changed her gender marker from female to 'prefer not to say' in December, and when that did not remove the age category records in her name, wrote to parkrun and had them remove her. Yet still the media harasses her.
She, if course, should not have to hide her gender, but the abuse and harassment she has been subject to has been relentless. A shame on all of the bigots who have tried to use her running abilities (which were considerable pre-transition, and she is much slower now) to harass a minority community. During LGBTQ+ history month too. No doubt the bigots will continue to harass people just for participating, but everyone is welcome at #parkrun. All gender identities, all paces. Come along.
My timer app stopped at interval n.5 during the 1-min fast pace. I really need to find another app!
This one worked perfectly on my old phone, but now it randomly stops 😶🌫️
Another ⭐-drawing. This is a time-efficient 10k path starting and ending at 10-min walk from home. I'll keep it in mind.
What do you think? To me it looks like a ⭐ hanging from a tree branch.
Performance-wise I felt tired. I usually increase my speed the last km but today I couldn't even do that.
A waterlogged course and inconsistent running over the last couple of months led to my worst #ParkRun time ever at my local, Tooting Common. But I got out of bed and I did it, which is what counts. The only way is up*.
It was intended to be a 4:1 intervals session, however after 2 intervals the timer app stopped (I don't know why), so I ended up doing:
*️⃣ 1,5 km 4:1 intervals
*️⃣ 2,5 km at regular pace
*️⃣ 1 km fast pace
Even when I go fast I'm mindful of safety and I never push myself. Landing my foot in a correct way by keeping my core engaged is a priority.
As I get older avoiding injuries is my ultimate goal.
I've signed up for a 10k in March and I'm trying to find the best running path for that distance.
There's a limit of 01:15:00, any runner who can't complete it in that time can't cross the finish line. Glad to know that my current level is already within the requirements, this way I am not pressuring myself and I just hope I won't finish last.
Half of the road was a mix of snow, ice, water and mud, the perfect combo to slip and break an ankle!
So I ran at turtle pace during those portions of my running path. The important thing is that I didn't slip 😁💙❄️
