Spatiotemporal Analysis Is 17,000 Years Old – Or Maybe More?

[Snow and Picquet were not first, as amazing as they were...]
“Geospatial analysis can be traced back as far as 17,000 years ago [or more], to the Lascaux cave in southwestern France. In this cave, Paleolithic artists painted commonly hunted animals and what many experts recently concluded are dots representing the animals’ lunar cycles to note seasonal behavior patterns of prey, such as mating or migration…”

Did you know that the oldest known #adhesive was also chewing gum?

#Birch tar is in its simplest form, burned birch #bark. It forms a sticky black pitch that can be used as glue.

Evidence for #human (& #Neanderthal) use has been dated to 200k or the Old #Stone Age.

Birch tar is also a disinfectant & it has been found as a chewing gum in various locations in Europe.

One birch gum piece from 5700 yrs ago, contained a complete human #genome of a woman.

We once travelled to the site in where the Venus von statuette was found. It was raining, the fruit orchards were just starting to blossom and the view of the flowing through the was impressive. One could feel the history and somehow believe that people had been here for 25,000 years.

Mysterious Stone Age Cemetery Found Near The Arctic – Why Are The Graves Empty? (www.ancientpages.com)

Snippet: "We have reviewed the archival material from the original excavations and undertaken further test excavations to confirm some of the findings. We argue that the site of Tainiaro was most likely, although not certainly, a large Stone Age cemetery of the fifth millennium BC....

Spent some time re-reading that #GunungPadang #14C paper which makes the round, supposedly supporting the idea of a #Paleolithic monumental #pyramid in #Indonesia.

But to be honest, I'm still scratching my head how this passed peer review.

I just had a vision that showed me how people would move massive stones and arrange them in circles like and other celestial circles around the world made out of megalithic stones... they would burn trees on top of the frozen ice tundra and it would melt the water on the top layer enough that they could slide the blocks along without causing damage to the earth and then as it recedes in the springtime and it melts, the stones would fall into place

Nature's Great Survivors: Flowering Plants Survived The Mass Extinction That Killed The Dinosaurs (www.ancientpages.com)

“A new study shows that flowering plants escaped relatively unscathed from the mass extinction that killed the dinosaurs 66 million years ago. While they suffered some species loss, the devastating event helped flowering plants become the dominant type of plant they are today.”

A cool spot of #mosstodon up in the Apuan Alps near the Grotta all’Onda — the “wave cave” named because of its broad limestone mouth — perfect for enjoying some cool air while escaping from the heatwave, in Tuscany 🇮🇹. A rock shelter since the Middle Paleolithic, and a lovely spot for a picnic today.

Two people disappearing into the wide mouth of the Grotta all’Onda, a cave site of prehistoric shelter high up in the mountains.
Standing inside the wide cave pictured in the previous image, looking out in the sunny woods. The image looks as though it is taken from a much cooler place than outside the cave.
