Just watched The Wicker Man, the real one, not Hollywood's disastrous, mess that completely missed the mark of the original (1973) film.
I'd forgotten how damned relaxing that film is and also perfect for this time of year.
Edit: No I don't condone the sacrificing of living beings as portrait in the film.
I really resonate with this article, especially this part: "I find that the problem of meaning in this void is often best addressed by a type of #pantheism, an embrace of that change. More than a former Christian, what I think of myself on some days as is an aspiring pagan."
I'm not wholly convinced of his argument, and hopefully I can write about why later this week, but on the whole it is excellent.
Why we need a new expression of the sacred: a #pagan#theology
These are pictures I took at the Jack in the Green fest, held every Beltane in Hastings. These are from 13 years ago, when I lived in London. I particularly like this portrait of the inimitable Simon Costin of the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Cornwall. This was a magical time and place, when I haunted folky events. It may never again be safe for me to be in crowds like this. I’m mourning that loss this Beltane. #Beltane#hastings#JackInTheGreen#Festivals#nostalgia#Pagan#MayDay#2010
If anyone knows of any livestreamed Mayday Morris dancing, let me know. I wish I could teleport myself to Berkeley and watch the Berkeley Morris at sunrise at Tilden Park. #MorrisDancing#Mayday#FolkMusic#Pagan
It's been weeks and weeks since I made anything so I'm quite out of practice with both carving and sanding but here is a sycamore wood spirit that I finally got done last night/this lunchtime.
I have been seeing for a while now, a split in our pagan community between the more witchy/occultist types and the purely religious polytheists. As both a devotional polytheist and a witch, I try to diligently select the correct word for the subject matter when I speak. But the term "Pagan," the idea of the "big umbrella" is and always has been protective. It's a collective noun that groups us all together when we need strength in numbers, because the Christian fascists want to eradicate us. They're trying to create a theocracy, and we have to unite in some way or the numbers are against us.
So I'll keep claiming the term #Pagan, even if it's not specific enough, even if it's a little "woo," even if I have a completely different theology with others that use it, because we are going to need every single non-Christian in our community to stop this current wave of fascism.
Paul Kingsnorth of #DarkMountain has converted to Orthodox Christianity - after a life of being an atheist turned animist turned Zen Buddhist turned Wiccan priest, he was recently claimed by the Christian God in the same Earth-shattering way that we polytheists often describe being claimed by our Gods or Spirits to do Work. Here's his article on it:
I'm pansexual just recently publicly identifying. Family and Business are my key priorities.
I've been a minister for 12 years my personal spiritual path is a #UU Humanistic #Norse#Wiccan#Pagan with a satanic twist 😅 I know that's a lot lol but I'll officiate weddings, counsel the grieving etc.
