“These 2,000-pound bombs routinely kill dozens, scores, more than 100 people at a time … And this one [arms] package that was being withheld apparently had more than 1,200 of those 2,000-pound bombs. So that’s not nothing. But it is very far from what is required.”
The Australian government has been accused of being secretive about its defence exports to Israel, as calls grow internationally for countries to suspend arms transfers that could be used to commit human rights abuses in Gaza.
Senate hearing heard that 52 defence permits were granted to the Israeli government in 2023 alone, and more than 350 were granted since 2017.
The 2,000-pound bombs, which can inflict damage to people up to 300 metres (1,000 feet) away, have been linked to previous mass-casualty events throughout Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
The U.S. cannot beg Netanyahu to stop bombing civilians one day and the next send him thousands more 2,000 lb. bombs that can level entire city blocks.
This is obscene.
We must end our complicity: No more bombs to Israel.
“It is absurd to criticise Netanyahu’s war in one breath and provide another $10bn to continue that war in the next. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about this disaster is the fiction we tell ourselves here in Congress, and that is that there is nothing, just nothing that we can do.” Bernie Sanders
I never understood what was wrong with the term "loitering munition", but I suppose it doesn't sell the newspapers, or whatever the kids are buying these days.
Shujaiya, Gaza, a flattened apartment complex bears graffiti reading “All this family killed by US weapons.”
This is in fact from 2014, when an almost identical genocide was taking place against Gaza. Yet, this graffiti stands true today as much as it did a decade ago.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has approved the potential sale M107 155mm projectiles and related equipment to Israel.
The approved potential sale of the bursting artillery rounds is valued $147.5 million. The Biden administration had previously bypassed Congress to approve the sale to Israel of nearly 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition worth more than $106m earlier this month.
The United States has sent 230 cargo planes and 20 ships loaded with weapons and military equipment to Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7, according to an Israeli media report.
Lithuania delivers munitions to Ukraine in latest aid delivery
Lithuania delivered a new batch of military aid to Ukraine, including millions of cartridges & thousands of short-range anti-tank projectiles
“We hear Ukraine’s urgent requests and continue to provide assistance in accordance with the stated needs. We actively encourage our allies to do the same.”
“Rushing deadly weapons to the far-right and openly genocidal Israeli government without congressional review robs American voters of their voice in Congress, emboldens Netanyahu to kill more Palestinian civilians, and furthers stains our nation’s standing in the world.”
CAIR’s National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell.
The United States government has used an emergency authority to allow the sale of about 14,000 additional tank shells for immediate delivery to Israel without congressional review.
Weapons and armaments have been pouring into Israel by US C-17 aircraft and commercial airlifters practically from October 8. The Washington Post reported that 15,000 bombs and 57,000 artillery shells (155mm) came by air, a figure consistent with the estimated amount of ordnance expended in the eight-week campaign and the carrying capacity of the aircraft.
