🦁💧 After 3 years I had to change my default desktop browser:
Brave ➡️ Waterfox

Reason: weird keyboard input bugs(?) in Brave for Windows (employer's machine), and of course it only happened to me (no word about it on the Brave forum). Maybe someone was spying on me, or simply a Windows bug.

On #AndroidOS I've installed Fennec (#Firefox) to sync my bookmarks with Waterfox via my #Mozilla account.
Both #Waterfox & Fennec are pretty nice browsers!
And Fennec has add-ons even on mobile 🙃

Fedora Silverblue 40 is out today. If you have rpm-fusion layered so you can’t upgrade through GNOME Software, run these commands in Terminal:

  1. Pin current version:

sudo ostree admin pin 0

  1. Handle rpm-fusion nastiness:

rpm-ostree update --uninstall rpmfusion-free-release --uninstall rpmfusion-nonfree-release --install rpmfusion-free-release --install rpmfusion-nonfree-release

  1. Rebase to Fedora Silverblue 40:

rpm-ostree rebase fedora:fedora/40/x86_64/silverblue

#Fedora40 #Silverblue

Note that I just encountered the following issue:

https://github.com/fedora-silverblue/issue-tracker/issues/536

Which I worked around by removing mozilla-openh264 before running the rebase again, at which point it succeeded:

rpm-ostree remove mozilla-openh264

#Fedora #fedora40 #Silverblue #upgrade #mozilla #OpenH264 #rpmOstree #error

Just rebooted and I’m up and running with Fedora Silverblue 40.

(Just tried reinstalling mozilla-openh264 – so videos work in Firefox – but it failed with the same error. Not a big deal, I’m using @Vivaldi as my main browser these days anyway and I guess the Fedora folks will fix this in time.)

More importantly, I wonder if the screen reader has been fixed yet. (Yes, Fedora ships with a broken screen reader.)

The current version of #Mozilla #Firefox is 125.0.2 #Librewolf is still stuck at version 124.0.1 & #MullBrowser from #FDroid is at 124.2.
Not sure, why both of them are not getting any further updates? Have they already given up? Time to switch back to vanilla #Firefox?

#Firefox 125.0.2 is out now to revert the new feature that proactively blocks downloads from potentially untrustworthy URLs as it caused unexpected problems with downloading files in some situations. It will be re-enabled in a future release once it works as expected! https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/125.0.2/releasenotes/

I don't understand why, after so many, many years of the Chrome extensions website looking like a proper app store, and after quite a few years of #Firefox extensions using the same kinda technology as Chrome extensions, the Firefox extension site still looks just really terrible, and not having anything like the kinds of massive, app-like extensions that #Chrome has!? While at the same time #Mozilla is spending money on all kinds of strange stuff. I also never see anyone complain about this?

Today, I had to fill in a #PDF form to send to my insurer. I opened it with #GNOME Document Viewer and filled in the various fields without any problem 🙂

Unfortunately, at the end of the document, we have to write our name and sign, but the application doesn't offer any options for adding text and inserting an image 😬

Since everyone praising the functional richness of #KDE applications, I decide to install #Okular. Except that it doesn't let you insert images either. No sooner installed than uninstalled ☹️

So I decided to try my luck directly with #Firefox. And then, a miracle. It's only a web browser, but it allowed me to insert my signature with disconcerting ease. Thanks #Mozilla 🤗 💖
