This is my first time making something with #JavaScript—a good bit of the code is based of raltsm4k's Floating Subs List—but I'm really happy with it! #Lemmy and #kbin are technically forum softwares as well, even though their design lineage shares more in common with Reddit than traditional forum software. I assume you're already familiar with them 😅

I did made another magazine on another KBin instance, but I don't seem to make it work when i pasted the community handle on my main instance. Sure, it worked on my Mastodon, but on my home KBin instance, it doesnt show that community. I'm gone wrong.
Could someone recommend a working and well-maintained #kbin or #mbin instance to me? I deleted my Lemmy account because of reasons and I thought kbin looked pretty nice, so I signed up to kbin.cafe only to realise that the last few federated posts are from 2+ weeks ago, lol.

We're one week into 2024, do you know what that means? Time to clean up your #SNS “following” especially here in the #Fediverse.
Check the “dormant” accounts if you can unfollow them.
Check which accounts “moved”. Follow their new account, then unfollow their old account.
And maybe there are other accounts that you haven't interacted with in the past few months; and their content is no longer something that you are interested, you can unfollow them too.
If you still want to see their content, you can encourage them to use #hashtags and you follow those hashtags. Or, join a federated “group” like those powered by #Mbin#Kbin#Friendica#Chirp and #Lemmy.
Of course, depending on the fediverse platform your instance is using, there are probably better features to the content of users without seeing their content that is not of interest to you. A good example, #Firefish / #Catodon / #IceShrimp can do that through the “Antenna” feature.
Take some time to do this, and start your 2024 fediverse better than 2023.
A super helpful feature that PieFed (a new fediverse thread aggregator like Lemmy & Kbin) has is an "Add Remote" button on its communities page. This button allows you to get a community on another instance to appear on your PieFed instance (and thus get the PieFed instance to start getting posts from that community)....
When you're in the All Content view, the arrows on the page select always act as if you're on page 1. I.e., the left arrow never works, and the right arrow always sends you to page 2. Not sure why this is.
@retrobeetism I have a similar experience. #Guppe groups (at least after it went offline for almost a month(?)) rarely works all other #Fediverse platforms (those I've tried). But #Chirp groups, #Friendica forums, #Kbin magazine, and #Lemmy communities, there are rarely any problems.
My brain tells me that the issue is with Guppe platform, since all other similar software works fine. They did something to break interoperability with the rest of the Fediverse, and created its own bubble with Mastodon.
It's a new year — about 6 months since that Reddit migration occurred — and Kbin progressed a ton in 2023. What are your thoughts on it? How much value have you gotten out of it, and what would you like to see in the future?
With #ActivityPub, could you have no character limit for the size of posts but then have them for replies? Posts (like articles) should go viral, replies should make for a great conversation and not deter from further engagement.
I just suspended the 'kbin.social' domain from our side, the issues on their side is happening for days now and it really effects our service backend now also.. If they have it all solved we will remove the block and we can refollow again Sorry about this but we don't have other options
You can try out #Mbin, it's #Kbin fork, it has issues too, but at leave there's multiple devs and all of them are active.(And anyone can become a dev, and actually send pull requests that will get merged)
I want to build a new piece of #fediverse server software that I'd call #platypus. The idea being that it would try to constantly incorporate the best ideas from other projects.
The initial version would have a feed that looks like #mastodon etc but when you clicked on an item, you'd see what looks like #lemmy or #kbin, with replies ranked via up/down arrows. No communities or magazines, just hashtags.
does this make sense? what am I not thinking about? wouldn't it be awesome? how do I start?
As 2023 is coming to an end shortly, I'm going to go through and just randomly list off some favorites from the past year.
High speed. Minimal thoughts.
First - favorite new manga of 2023? Beat and Motion, Two on Ice, and Shojo Null. The first's about music; the second's about figure skaters; the last is set in a world of disposable cyborgs that are actuality sentient people with machines on them removing all sense of consciousness - with a sentient cyborg lead, a co-lead whose parent's were murdered for learning this truth, & good social commentary on cops.
2023 was big for me on the Fediverse. I got active on Pixelfed with @mdmrn. I started a new Sharkey (originally Firefish) account @mdmrn.
I had a KBin account, but that disappeared almost as soon as I had it when NerdBin disappeared. Then again I was never much of a Reddit guy...so Fediverse Reddit was never going to be my thing.
