For the love of all that is holy...in Blades in the Dark (or all #FitD#TTRPGs I know of) there are not hard lines between free play, downtime, and "scores". Yes, you can only take downtime activities during downtime. But it's not the other way around. /1
I figured I'd do a bit of a #gamedesign year in review for my #2023
2023 was the year of supplemental material for me. Unlike 2022 everything I published this year built on top of other people's games. That's good and bad; on one hand I got the experience of working under other writing styles and engaging with a bunch of different #fitd hacks. On the other it means that my original works were all pushed back.
I'm really proud of the work I did this year (by and large), so let's get to them!
finished this short campaign!
the party defeated the first leviathan in the past and returned the future to how it should have been.
i learned so much in these 10 sessions! like, i think that gbm is a really well designed game system. i just kinda struggled a lot with the episodical structure of it and the phases of play.
but it was good ^^
Hey folks, the Bump in the Dark Bundle for Teen Mental Health and Housing #bundle is now live, and features the core rulebook plus 16 other jam projects, including my 3 hunts in "A Song of Autumn".
Bump in the Dark is a monster-hunting #fitd#bitd hack set in a fictional American Midwest area. Inspired by shows like Supernatural, or Buffy: the Vampire Slayer.
I enjoyed using Iron Country's extensive lore and coming up with some wacky mysteries to solve.
Hey folks. I'm excited to announce that my RPG Mountain Home is in the new #fitd Bundle of Holding! It feels like a milestone to have Mountain Home sitting in a bundle with so much great stuff.
everyone's RPG collections should probably include BitD at this point. And it can't hurt to get Mountain Home while you do it! 😀
I've been plugging away at improving my sheet's appearance for Tribes in the Dark and I'm happy enough with it to stop futzing. Pretty much gone through every element and changed, rearranged, etc. I'm not happy with the big section in the middle for armor boxes but I'm leaving it be until I figure out something better to do with it.
Ahhh, found home after a brief, good start of a few weeks in the Fediverse. Looking forward to exploring and supporting tabletop rpgs here. Of late : joined GenCon Online this year, considering design on an rpg and/or system agonistic mini rpg on social interactions and /or relationships and hoping to play in a Blades in the Dark crew and worldbuilding campaign one day (or similar). I'm also an oldie who is Noobie to Glorantha this year. Partly kicked it off playing at ChaosiumCon 2023.
@nukehavoc Thanks! I've so many #FitD games waiting 4 play, they'd make a multiverse. I want to house rule #Scum And Villainy and Gambits into #BladesInTheDark . #SavageWorlds is the only thing I haven't seen in your list, but have to one shot one day.
Please respond by saying what sorts of TTRPG things you're pretty likely to either talk about or respond to if you see them.
This can be a list of games (D&D! Tribe 8! Fate!) or categories (the weirdest of indie stuff! NSR! Anything PBtA!), topics (Worldbuilding! Publishing!), stuff you're making, meta-commentary (The State Of The Industry), and so on.
Then maybe share, and if the replies are building up, check them for new people.
@LeviKornelsen I go on a lot about #DnD4E, #Pathfinder2e, #NSR/post-#OSR type stuff (whatever that is), #FitD, and weird one-page RPGs that evoke way beyond what their word count suggests.
Revelation, the #PbtA and #FitD#ttrpg convention at The Garrison Hotel in Sheffield on 17th & 18th February 2024!
