I'm still finding this hard to believe.

"Your fingerprints can be recreated from the sounds made when you swipe on a touchscreen — Chinese and US researchers show new side channel can reproduce to enable attacks."

And I don't just mean the person answering this question. I also mean whoever decided to remove this option.

The pattern of lines and whorls on each human fingerprint is unduplicated by any other finger, right? A team of researchers is casting some doubt on that long-held belief. Science Alert has more: https://flip.it/iTAS_T

It's pretty weird to me how Apple/iOS/etc. require you to type in your password for certain things, like installing an OS update. Why do you not trust the same biometric that allowed me access to the system?

kkarhan,

@uncouth because are per definition as all can either be copied (i.e. & ) or forcibly authenticated against (i.e. like )...

And since 's is a prime target for like , it's no surprise that woth malicious is rather common...

It’s been a long time since I’ve researched anything on MJ, but I vaguely remember reading that they found the fingerprints of both MJ and some kid on porn mags that he had. Showing porn to kids is one of the main methods of grooming that child predators use, though I don’t recall if they were adult magazines or CP magazines - not that either option would be good, really.

Edit: So after looking at this article on the fingerprints and this one on the CP they found, the story is a bit more complicated than that.

Do keep in mind that this blog is obviously very biased in favor of MJ, trying to downplay the fact that he kept magazines with nude photos of children, and speculating about what “real grooming” would look like and why MJs actions supposedly don’t match what the author personally thinks a real attempt at grooming should be like.

If anyone wants to abide by the interpretations of this blog specifically be my guest, but I sure as hell still wouldn’t let my kids near MJ.

“If someone steals a biometric scan of your palm, you can’t get a new palm.” is a weak mindset. we all know you can just place your palm onto a boiling stove top

kkarhan,

@ipg are not a safe means of or since are easy to copy amd people can just he violently forced into authentification.

Like what prevents a cop from dragging someone at their hair in front of their FaceID device and non-consensually force them into doing "FaceUnlock"?

At least woth Passwords & PINs, one's able to just provide knowingly false ones and thus trigger lockdowns of accounts and/or wiping of them...
