Who is your favourite antagonist? Why?
Across all my books, my favorite antagonist is Ferren, Dorelle's erstwhile commander.
He is very clear in his beliefs (even if he's wrong), and he goes all the way to defend what he knows is the right way to deal with dragons. It's tradition, dammit!
Watching him descend deeper and deeper into his own delusion was... fascinating. And tragic. Very tragic.
"My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail is a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!"
(#Smaug from #TheHobbit)
Often the bad guys attract our attention the most. In fact, we are most fascinated by them. But, in the end, our fascination must be replaced by repulsion.
Yes, the fact of #billionaires is fascinating. It's also evil. They are like #dragons on their piles of hoarded gold, with bones lying all around.
3D character commission for @SeraphisZurvan - my first quadrupedal dragon, as a VTuber avatar! You might also see him in VR at some point, but that's going to take a bit more work still.
This was a huge project - thank you so much for the opportunity, and I hope you like him!
First ever picture I created of Misora from 2001. She has evolved a lot since then, but a lot of the same features are still the same as when I originally envisioned her. She originally had bat-like wings with transparent membrane, was scaled, and lacked ears!
@rdm suggested Three Thirsty Tatzelwurms - we were discussing them last night. They're an unusual dragon variant from the European Alps with the facial features of a cat. I tried to go for a generic folk art sort of look here. It's the Robert Oster red orange again with the pretty Conklin.
This label on a product certifies it has been certified for being used by #dragons. That means:
It was designed from the very beginning for #dragon use, and it has been proved by internal documentation
It has passed usability tests performed by dragons
DHA officials verified the previous criteria.
To prevent counterfeiting, each label has an unique identification number related to the product and a silver label with DHA logo.
No.12 is brought to you by Robert Oster's Signature Red Orange Ink which I loaded into the Conklin last night in preparation and everything. It flowed really smoothly, really really nice but it suddenly dried up a couple of times and got scratchy so I don't know what was going on there. But a quick shake fixed it. It's a really nice ink. I wouldn't call it Red Orange - I'd call it Rockin' Sepia Fire.
I haven't been saying much about the paper. I've mostly been using the new Field Notes Streetscape sketchbook and it's performed pretty well, although it has bled through in a couple of spots. It's not quite thick enough to be really adequate for heavy fountain pen use. But it's been alright and very convenient.
So a 3 headed dragon came into existence, and they decided they wanted to be the whole mediaeval two legs finny wing type anatomy. I wasn't going to argue!
In this month's ChickADEE I have a comic of Lesser Known Dragons which you for sure enjoy. How could you not love them all? I hear kids are already emailing in their own examples, which is super cool to hear!
I read a Hungarian Roma folktale today that featured an evil dragon woman trying to kill a man by cursing him with hunger, and planting an enticing pear tree in his way.
Luckily a girl knocked the pear out of the man's hand. The pear screamed so loud it made trees snap. Had he eaten it, she says, he would have exploded from the sound.
Thb this entire folktale is pretty wild. It begins with a young wizard falling into a wolf trap. Sometime later a dragon, carrying a kidnapped princess, also stumbles into the pit. The wizard pulls his knife, dragon falls on it and dies, princess is thus rescued. The dragon's mother, however, swears revenge. Cue the exploding pears.
