@gearsofgames@yesterzine pretty much "same, but beeper and EGA". I had this as a budget title as a kid, mainly from being obsessed with Sierra Cosworths, although by that point it was quite dated and never fired the imagination the same way as Car & Driver or the track editor in Grand Prix Unlimited.
Atari 1040STF upgrade to 4MB - works! It's quite smooth, and easy if you got the mobo with 8 chips for 1MB (or 4 for 520STF).
I've seen that Mega ST1 to ST4 has similarities to this particular motherboard, and decided to try.
Get a PS/2 FPM 70ns RAM module with 8 chips, SOJ26 to DIP adaptera (8 pcs), 33ohm resistor
Desolder the chips from PS/2 module and desolder old RAM from ST, then solder new RAM in adapters (add sockets)
Connect all the legs - number 5 from the left, top (signal A9) with each other then connect them to MMU pin 64 (its not connected to anythin) via 33 Ohm resistor. The A9 singls on RAM are also not connected.
The upgrade is reversible just by swapping memory chips.
That is it. I'll prepare a blog entry with details.
You can now easily load your ROMs on the Atari 2600+ console with Harmony and Concerto multicarts (Harmony firmware). Just rename your ROM "autorom.bin". #Atari2600#atari#retrogames#retrogaming
Also found this Vintage Atari 520 ST Game System Machine on Goodwill. It's currently priced at $60 with the auction ending on May 29. Someday I’d love to get more into the Atari machines, both the 8-bit and 16-bit, they seem to be a bit of a dark horse that could have been much more popular even than they were. Real retro-veterans of course know that the first console war was between Atari 2600 and the Philips Videopac, known in the US as the Magnavox Odyssey.
Later, the Mattel IntelliVision was the arch-enemy of the CBS ColecoVision.
I owned an Atari 2600 and later a CBS ColecoVision. Precious childhood memories. 💚
To fully understand the #Atari takeover of #Intellivision, imagine a hollowed out corpse, piloted from within by a #French armadillo, devouring the dessicated remains of its former rival.
Anyway, the shitposts on Atari Age should be a sight to behold.
TIL that Intellivision still exists as a company. I had an Intellivision in the 80s, and it was technically superior in every way to the Atari 2600... but all my friends had Ataris...
