I think the one thing we have all learned from #WotC this years is that corporate controlled creativity, even when done by good people, isn't nearly as good as what people come up without that company overlord telling them what to do.
Let's continue to support the smaller folks of the #ttrpg industry. Those are the ones who still care about the hobby beyond just dollars.
Dungeons and Dragons folk: The Beyond Printing extension for Chromium based browsers seems to do a pretty solid job backing up your #DnDBeyond content if you're worried about #WotC / #Hasbro shenanigans.
"[...] we have been and will continue to be clear that we do not allow the use of generative AI in our art. While detection can be difficult and lines blurry, we are working hard to make sure our art is made by the talented humans who have delighted our fans for decades"
I've been contacted by a law student in Seattle. She's writing a law review note on the #OGL and following in my footsteps by discussing the rarely-discussed concept of #copyright misuse. She's citing my work and, I hope, adding more to the argument. I hope this is a trend. More information is better, but I'm tired of arguing about it. #DnD#RPG#TTRPG#WotC
@randomwizard Well, what I was doing was writing the entire 5th edition PHB in my own words. Because copyright extends only to the specific expression of the rules, my distinct expression wouldn't infringe theirs. However, they backed down on the OGL 2.0, so there was no longer a reason to punish them for it. That could (and probably will) change, but for now, I don't want to ruin a market for a company. They're the dicks; not I. But it's about 40-50% finished, so fuck around and find out, WotC.
