"Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025, but the company is now taking the unusual step of reopening its beta program for Windows 10 to test new features and improvements."
Are they just going to start cramming more AI into it to see if they can force people to upgrade?
Don't want to trash your #Windows10 machine? Who says you have to? There are ways to keep it working. Some of them will even let you keep running Windows 10.
If the Microsoft Windows 11 PC (which I am forced to use for client/work) is any proof, every Microsoft AI feature added to the OS is subtracting 15-20% of the productivity from your employees. 🙄
@ai6yr New nag from Microsoft to upgrade to Win 11 : It's time to upgrade your PC before end of suppport which they say arrives Oct 14 2025 - which they say means no tech support (that's fine) or SECURITY UPDATES (boooo!) after that date. #microsoft#windows10#windows11
I have just had a message from Microsoft on my Windows 10 desktop that all support is ending for Windows 10 on October 25th.
My computer isn't compatible for Windows 11, even if I wanted it.
I am only moderately tech savvy, so I'm very nervous about installing Linux Mint ( recommended by quite a few blogs etc). Where would I find tech support if it goes wrong?
Edit: muting this now as I've had such a good response from all you super people.
I'm currently being reminded how I hate having to use #Windows and how insanely crap is support for online hosting.
I'm trying to upload using Windows ftp command and it all goes fine, even the file is created on the server but the file is empty due to some error establishing the data connection.
Some report solving this error by setting passive mode in the client, which #Windows10 ftp doesn't support
Support guy tells me: create an #FTP account and you can use Windows ftp or any FTP client 🤦♂️
#Microsoft just gave me the push I needed to wipe that #windows10 partition that I almost never boot into anyway. Being an #openbsd user that wants to get into #android app development, I am considering #voidlinux . What do you think fedi, any thoughts on the best option for me?
