Sure, it isn't #TSSTB or #IKSOSE3, but Vaxis 1: Unheavenly Creatures is some pretty great late era #CoheedAndCambria and better than Vaxis 2. Plus, the triple LP #vinyl is awesome.
Still trying to work out what vinyl need a wet clean and this after I wet cleaned it smacked me sideways with the bass kicking in. It has absolutely no business sounding as good as it does for the money it costs.
Case in point that sometimes the remasters sound better and the 80s were all over the place quality wise in vinyl. This original pressing is very bright and quite shallow as well as thin in it's physical form. I'm guessing they just didn't put the work knowing how big of an album this was to become.
Hang up your hang ups. 2015 AAA pressing on Speakers Corner of this 1975 Japanese-only LP (released in the US and EU in 2014-15). You like Headhunters? You like the Hancock funk? You'll like this. #vinyl#HerbieHancock#HeadHunters@vinylrecords
Tonight's show is the best of my friend Jay's records. He gave them to me three years ago, when he thought he was dying from cancer, asking that I play them on the radio so he could hear them again and I did nine shows worth at the time. He beat the cancer, but died this week from Covid.
This weekend was Doors Open in Toronto where places you don't normally have access are open and have tours. We went to the east end gas plant where they generate a lot of power for the City, and a very interesting tour of a record store.
At the gas plant, I asked the only non-technical question -- about whether any movies had scenes shot there. Yes! Many! In fact, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be there in about a week.
The #record store, Dine Alone Records, was way more interesting than I thought. I had no idea they had a recording studio upstairs, a stage for bands, make record labels, a lovely rooftop deck for special events (complete with sauna) and so much more at the site. They gave a tour of it all! #LPs#vinyl#music#musicians#Toronto
The 2020 half-speed mastered #bobmarley releases are worth seeking out. They sound great. I’d probably give the edge to original #tuffgong pressings from Jamaica but these sound better than most of my original Island pressings or some of the other recent represses. Survivor especially sounds great, but they all sound quite good. #reggae#reggaerecords#vinyl@vinylrecords
Campoli Plays Paganini-Kreisler, Saint-Saëns (LSO, cond. Gamba) (1959)
When I'm not listening to reissues of 1970s soul jazz, I'm geeking over old London Decca classical records. This one was a thrift store find yesterday.
Various – More Coffee For The Politicians (Phoenix Underground Music Compilation #3)
Placebo Records, 1985
Regionally focused comps were super helpful back before the internet. Best way to focus on a specific scene.
This one has a nice variety of musical styles. It's #3 in a series from Placebo spotlighting the Phoenix Scene (e.g. "This Is Phoenix, Not The Circle Jerks" and "Amuck").
There's a white paper insert with some Placebo Records and their respective prices listed. It's an order form you'd mail in.
I bought this album in 1970 while in high school, for no other reason than I was mezmorized by the cover art, and heard that Miles is hip and I should be listening to him. At the time, I didn't get it and shelved it for years. It took being exposed to much more music to understand what genius is contained on these disks. So much history and influences are amalgamated into this music. #jazz#afro#rock#freejazz#milesdavis#BitchesBrew#nowplaying#vinyl
