Walk'n'roll!! Thanks to all the kids, parents, teachers, school administrators, and community members who made today's Unity Day/Walk'n'Roll event at EARThS Magnet School a success.
Special kudos to principal Jeff Rickert, who led the large group dressed as a gecko, the school's mascot.
Parents: Students who walk or ride bikes to school do better.
There are walk’n’roll events scheduled TODAY at Banyan and EARThS Magnet schools. Talk with your principal and PTA about a similar program at your kids’ school.
City staff has posted the agenda for the 10/10 City Council meeting, including a review of the city's Inclusionary Housing Ordinance (IHO).
I encourage all interest residents to read the materials, attend the meeting (in person or remotely), and if so inclined to comment on the IHO or other topics on the agenda.
Tomorrow, Oct. 4, is National Walk and Ride to School Day. Volunteers throughout the city are sponsoring walk'n'roll events at three elementary schools: Lang Ranch, Sycamore Canyon, and Westlake Elementary.
This is just the kickoff. More elementary schools will hold similar events later this month and, we hope, on an ongoing basis. Show your support via the city website (link in graphic), your kids' school, and your PTA!

Congratulations to Jack Nosco of Newbury Park, who today rode his bike for the 1,000th day in a row! How many days a week do you exercise?
Jack, a retired VCFD captain, also organizes the Mike Nosco Memorial Ride. Every Nov. 3 hundreds of cyclists (or more) ride to benefit local families and individuals facing life-threatening illness. Learn more/donate at mikenosco.com.
Today (9/15) at midnight is the deadline for public comment on the draft General Plan Update. I encourage all residents to review and weigh in on the draft, the first revision to our city’s General Plan since its adoption in 1970.
Apparently people dying in their homes from heat just doesn't make it into the news in Arizona. Not even one article about the two people I knew who died in Bullhead City, Arizona (at their second home... they have their first home at an expensive luxury retirement community in #ThousandOaks California) due to #heat last week, anywhere (!) #heatwaves#HeatIllness#AZwx
Want to help promote more school kids walking and riding to school?
The Conejo Coalition for Youth & Families – AFAIK the only TO agency to encompass the city, CRPD, and CVUSD – meets Tuesday to discuss how to support “Walk’n’Roll,” a citywide volunteer effort.
Public attendance and comments are welcome. We meet Tuesday at 10 am at CRPD headquarters, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive.
CHP Moorpark: "CHP Moorpark is on scene with a 5 veh crash on Moorpark Rd. 2 people were transported to the hospital and a truck carrying lumber overturned." #Moorpark#TC#accident#ConejoValley#ThousandOaks
Glad to read in the TO Acorn that construction is set to begin soon at the Timber School site in Newbury Park.
This project checks a number of boxes. It preserves an important local landmark. It provides needed housing, 12% of which is affordable units. And it will include a hotel close to life-science companies, something local businesses tell us is much needed.
