"The modern #GOP is supposed to be pro-family, pro-tax-cuts and anti-“waste, fraud and abuse.” So why are #Republican#senators trying to tank a bill that is all three?
Immigrants play a vital role in boosting our economy and contributing to America's success! Let's recognize and appreciate the immense value immigrants bring to our nation's prosperity. #immigration#taxes#tax
On a more pressing note…see where your state lands on the tax list. My state is in the top 10, but I love it here after living in a low tax state that didn’t even provide snow plowing after a blizzard. “You get what you pay for”…and “the only guarantee in life is death and taxes.”
I filed my taxes over the weekend, and I was amazed at the dark patterns TurboTax gets away with to try to convince you to give up your data. The wording and style is similar to other legitimate tasks you need to complete in the final review stage.
Dean Obeidallah opens his commentary about Trump's gala to fleece super-rich Republicans in Palm Beach last weekend by reminding us of a meeting Hitler held with super-rich German business leaders in 1933. He promised them if they'd give money to the Nazi party, he'd end democracy to benefit them. And give they did, lavishly so.
"On Saturday night, Trump convinced 117 extraordinarily wealthy people to give him $50 million at a campaign fundraiser at the Palm Beach home of billionaire investor John Paulson. They believe that if Trump becomes president again, he’ll give them another big tax cut."
Aldous J. Pennyfarthing notes that while Trump parties with billionaires, Biden and Bernie have united – offering a sharp contrast that points the way to what we'll get if we vote for one or the other of the two candidates.
Trump's promising to shovel more money into billionaires' pockets via tax cuts. Biden wants them to pay their fair share.
P.S. There's a reason the media want to undercut Biden: wonder what it might be?
How big an impact on the UK's economic growth are high marginal rates of taxation (that are caused by the way threshold eligibility for benefits - universal credit) are currently structured.
Dawid Trzeciakiewicz & Richard McManus argue it could be significant and sorting this anomaly of the tax system out would likely help revive the economy.
I'm not so sure about their argument about the utility of raising VAT, but a thought-provoking case nonetheless
I spend most of my week debugging code. So when I picked up my #tax documents from a preparation service and something seemed wrong, I started debugging.
Turns out they made a copy-and-paste error that meant a $2500 tax bill rather than a $1000 refund. 🤦♂️
I did my own #taxes for years until recently. I just want to pay someone to save myself the weekend of researching and agonizing. But I also need to be confident enough in that I don't need to double-check their work for crap like this. 🤡
Wu to seek permission to temporarily raise tax rates on office buildings should assessments show big decline in their values; says move would protect residents from potentially large tax increases
@sjwrenlewis concludes, rightly, that while voters might forgive (or forget, provided the press lets them) that a Labour Govt broke its promise not to raise taxes, few will be so forgiving if it has not made significant repairs to the social damage (from the NHS to the UK's infrastructure) wrought by 14 years of Tory rule.
Things will not be easy for Labour if they win the election but there's no need to tie their hands behind their back
