Cool to see writeup on a game that's already on my wishlist, Cobalt Core. It's on Switch, I may grab it there. I can't speak to if I like it yet, but I'm guessing I probably will. The genre is "sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder", which sounds odd but check the screenshots at these links- I kinda get it. I think it looks great - I dig weird strategy stuff like this sometimes. Now I'm even more psyched to play it.
There have been many definitions of roguelikes and roguelites thrown around over the years, and Berlin Interpretation aside (it's too broad), a guy I was talking to the other day sent me a great, concise definition of both that I really liked (simplified, paraphrased and rewritten a bit):
Roguelike: (looking to "Rogue" for comparison): single character turn and tile based strategy rpg (i.e. NOT games like Rogue Legacy - they're just platformers!)
Roguelite: subgenre of roguelike built around metaprogress.
Rogue is a "Hack-like" (Hack is basically a proto-Nethack) and Nethack is a hack-like -- so Rogue, Nethack and Hack are all roguelikes.
Sometimes the procedural generation delivers these interesting shapes.
I tried to imagine how a city would develop around this gulf, but couldn't resist adding houses on the peninsulas, despite limited access to workplaces.
Oh hey! Arcadian Atlas, a turn based #strategy game in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics, just released on Steam an hour ago.
I've been following the development of this one for a while now; the character art really caught my eye. It's changed a lot. I can't wait to see how it turned out!
For anyone doubting that the Ukrainian #strategy is working, you just have to realise the following:
Compare Ukrainian advances vs. Russian advances in real life, instead of comparing real Ukrainian advances vs. expected Ukrainian advances in your imagination.
Notice that #Russia has hardly advanced anywhere and cannot break Kyiv's defences, whereas #Ukraine is advancing on multiple fronts, is starting to conduct missions in #Crimea and has been striking #Moscow daily.
We present the first part of our Common Strategy for the development of the Antifa movement in Ukraine. Unfortunately, only in UA for now.
In this part we share our view on the individual development and it's high priority. In our opinion, all members of the movement should have: a strong political background, modern education, the ability to take care of themselves and others, defend themselves and create quality social connections.
All this is necessary to create affinity groups, and then to form assemblies - the basic units of people's power.
Lifting #sanctions on #Venezuela and #Cuba seems to be a potential #strategy for reducing undocumented #migration. I don't know a lot about the issue, so I'd love to hear from you all on the subject. Do you think it's a good idea? What are the possible drawbacks?
"Good design is opinionated. Good design is choosing the right compromise for your audience." By @kepano
I tend to agree. We need to be able to make choices. Choices based on our audience needs, but also on the product strategy, roadmap, business value and vision.
I'm curious to hear what you think about Design being compromise. https://stephanango.com/design-is-compromise #Design#Strategy
Stormgate Gameplay Reveal (Pre-Alpha) - PC Gaming Show 2023 (www.youtube.com)
This is the game being presented as the successor to SC2, a ton of the original Blizzard devs are working on this and it looks promising to me.
Any RPG and/or Strategy games for broad audience?
A friend and I love in depth games but want to include our families, some younger and some not super drawn to scifi or fantasy....
