In my previous life I enjoyed working with young academic staff and students from across the EU and beyond (but the vast majority were from within the EU.
#Brexit was racist fortress imposed by those over 50 on the under 30s. That’s how I saw it then and still see it now. #Sunak and #Starmer are both the enemy of the young.
Sunak rejects the offer of a mobility scheme for young people between the EU & UK
Labour also rejected the EU's proposal which would've allowed young people to live, work & study in the bloc
Opinion: This is what I hate about politics! The Tories know they've made a mess of Brexit, but daren't do anything to repair the damage. Labour can't agree to it because they'll be accused of reversing Brexit
“A Labour government would seek to improve the UK’s working relationship with the EU within our red lines.”
But there’s the problem, right there. There is very little of any practical, useful improvement in the working relationship with the EU that can be made while sticking rigidly to those “red (wall) lines”. And it will do nothing for our relationship with the EU to dismiss friendly overtures like this out of hand.
Keir is not popular in London, where he's an MP, so they picked somebody else to ride with Khan today.
At least somebody in there has their head screwed on
lol, taking vast swathes of the voters for granted are we Keir?
Never mind, it's only spiteful Tory voters that matter, isn't it lads?
The rest of us are a burden and a chore, aren't we?
"Investment bankers about the financial crisis: “It was an easy game for us to earn a lot of money”
Asked about his political position: "I support the British people. I do not want these people to fall into poverty. If I believe, for example, that the Labour Party can help me to prevent that, then I support them. The party leadership insists that it will not tax the rich. If so, then I cannot."
I did but it seems like a statement of screamingly obvious... When they are attacking the 'leftie middle class' publicly for objecting to the privatisation of the NHS, I think we know what we are dealing with.
An issue for #Starmer now is that he has lied so regularly - almost everytime he promises anything in fact (no exageration) he cannot now be redeemed. You'd have to be truly stupid to believe this crowd. About anything except their self interest.
I’m looking at the reports that #starmer#labour#ScottishLabour are going to commit to replacing Trident. An obscene amount of money so that Starmer can sit with the ‘big boys’ at the nuclear table. #jackiebmsp must be proud and salivating at the thought of retaining her seat at the expense of the #nhs and #socialcare. #scottishindependence now!
And that is before they ask voters in Scotland (this being a very SE England centric paper). The only Labour voters I know here (all in their 40s and 50s) won’t, it’s not just muslim and younger voters who are disgusted.
Starmer's grand plan (or is that Peters?) to ditch the Lefties and appeal to the Tories only half works, he's ditching the Lefties but the Righties he loves are more interested in Reform.
Meanwhile decent people who understand what problems this declining nation are facing have little to vote for.
Westminster doesn't want us to exist.
@AlexGallagher
Change is possible, ......but only in a very limited , costed, fiscal rules compliant way that all our allies and my donors will accept
"Now is not the time...." #starmer#labour
#GreenParty sees chance of second MP as Labour voters waver in Bristol
Poll predicts Green co-leader Carla Denyer will win in new #Bristol Central seat by siphoning off votes from disillusioned left
@proseandpassion Great news, and #Starmer's direction of travel - rightwards, ever rightwards - will reinforce that move to the #greens
With Starmer seemingly determined to piss-off as many people as possible who are not supporters of #austerity, #privatisation or #genocide, I look forward to many more green councillors and MPs
The NHS is on its knees, there's shit in our water, children are dying of mould inhalation in damp homes their parents can't afford to heat, and we're told that what we should be outraged at is checks notes the #nationaltrust's scone recipe.
There's a lot of justified anger in this country right now, and it benefits the shower in government if it's misdirected at bullshit like this. Don't fall for it.
"Trusting" #Starmer is the ultimate in stupidity. Obviously the last thing he is, is trustworthy. So either you have to be truly stupid to trust him or you have to be into his level of moral depravation: a genocidal Zionist, Murdoch supporting, totalitarian/anti-democracy, trickle down and privatisaiton enthusiast, anti-union and apathetic at best about poverty.
@JimmyB TBH the grauniad have a very poor grasp of numbers and statistics - there is no link go the survey data so I wouldn't necessarily assume its correct
Even if it is true, so what?
Labour members get no say in policy - see what happens to FPTP and BDS resolutions and their numbers are falling
If you are not a "true believer" in project #starmer then you are probably not a member any more
The #guardian is constantly promoting #starmer while doing a bit of hand-wringing
