One of my kind guides in the city of #CapeTown was Dzvinka Kachur, one of more than 1,000 Ukrainians now living in #southafrica according to the #Ukrainian embassy. Another study had the number as high as 6,663 in 2019.
Her efforts ultimately led to the formation of the Ukrainian Association of #southafrica which celebrates their nation’s culture and history – and serves as an organizing point for political protest.
I first met Kachur in a park near central Cape Town, which is home to a striking bench decorated in a #Ukrainian style. On top, it features a stark plaque with a message of sorrow and solidarity, commemorating the famous famine in Ukraine nearly 100 years ago.

Not a particularly amazing showing for the DA when ANC support collapses by like 14 points and they gain a whole 1% of voters as a result. Judging from the results so far the ANC will be forced into a coalition with either the EFF, MZ, or the DA. Let's hope they come to an agreement with the DA I guess 🤷♀️ #southafrica

South Africans queued late into the night to vote Wednesday, forcing polling stations to remain open beyond closing time in a landmark general election, with the ruling ANC fighting to protect its three-decade-long grip on power. Most polls started to close at 9:00pm but thousands were still waiting in line after nightfall in some big-city voting stations, with electoral officials vowing everyone would get their chance. #SouthAfrica#Elections#Politics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UPLf8UYUww
One key issue that's impacted #SouthAfrica 's election is the policy of #AffirmativeAction the country began in 1994. A series of measures, known as the "Triple B double E Act" (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment), have favoured non-White South Africans in public or private jobs, as well as in university admissions. But these measures are now being contested by the opposition, who claim they perpetuate racial discrimination and do not promote good governance.
So the slow down now is the lady folding the ballots & stamping them. Long wait for her to slowly fold each one. Why is no one helping her? Multiple people standing around! #southafrica#voting#capetown
Well 2hrs and counting at my voting station! One of the 'machines' wasnt working... but its been moving quicker now that 'it came back up'. #capetown#southafrica
