Instead of letting me go, she said, “You shouldn’t. That’s a graveyard and she’s dead.”
Everyone said that, but it was a mistake. I had seen Mikawa, and she was definitely alive. Why wouldn’t Ume let me go? All I wanted to do was be with my girlfriend. Did this damn bitch think I would go with her when I had Mika?
“Fuck you,” I said and tried to get away. “She’s waiting. Mika is waiting.”
Happy #InternationalDayOfTransgenderVisibility! Today I'm reading "Jesse's Girl" by Reese Morrison, a romance novella detailing trans representation and identity.
I'm aiming to be more intentional about reading diversely, so this will be the first of many books featuring trans characters and/or written by trans authors.
If you have any recs, please let me know. Thank you!
If you're a fan of period tv shows and mini-series, I curate a list of nearly 300 streaming mini-series / TV found here: https://exitpursuedbyabear.net/projects/put-a-cravat-on-it/ (updated yearly). Both link to streaming services it is available on. Enjoy!
One reviewer on Goodreads wrote, "It's one of those books that has you actually holding your breath at least once. There were phrases that I had to speak aloud because they were so gorgeous I wanted to feel the weight and shape of them for myself."
I would like to thank #Romancelandia for all the info on fair use and copyright from a few years back when blogs were getting dinged. My work has us doing a training and my Twitter friends taught me more than my work
Now that twitter has completely gone to shit (will it just die already?!!), I'm wondering where all the #Romancelandia peeps are going to for bookish conversations... Is it here on Mastodon? Facebook? Discord? Somewhere else? I haven't logged into Mastodon in months, so I'll take another look around. But would love to hear from you :)
Friends, #WhatchaReading ? I finished The Other Side of Disappearing and think it'll be one of my top romances of the year. I loved the plotting, the richness of the themes and the really satisfying way things came together in the end.
Also read The Brunellesci Baby because what's a vacation without a Harlequin Presents? It's a pretty good one, tropey but with some individuality.
I #read the 38 hr #audiobook of Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy. This 6th #book in the Jack Ryan #thriller series is really important to the overall plot arc of Ryan’s life. I am not going to wax on about the highs or lows of it, but if you read any of this series as a standalone, this is the one to invest in. I have an economics degree & think this might be very difficult to parse in places. #books#reading#romancelandia#bookstodon@bookstodon
Pleased to announce this is up for preorder. It's set in 1970, there's magic and gods and drugs and queer romance, and I did actually write a couple of songs for the Macbeth musical. It's a direct sequel to Dionysus in Wisconsin, so if you haven't read that weird fever dream yet, now is a good time to check it out.
Okay, looking for audiobook recs. Hopefully stuff my library has... I like urban fantasy over epic fantasy, romance is good, historical fiction is better than contemporary, some preference for queer over straight but willing to make an exception if the female main character is cool enough.
Hey #romancelandia - I am craving a type of #romance I got stuck on 20 years ago, series about the same idyllic quirky little small town (preferably NOT anywhere men wear cowboy hats), with soothing recurring characters and families and friend groups all finding their #HEA one book at a time. More heart than heat.
Prefer a more diverse selection of characters than was available 20 years ago but same cute quirky vibe really centered in Place, with the town like a character of its own.

Thanks as always to the amazing @eliotedits for editing it, and to a huge number of people who helped out in different ways, from research to language to childcare.
I #read Gnome Sweet Gnome by Elva Birch (#book 2/Lawn Ornament Shifters) today because rn it’s #free (not sure how long that will last), and because the cover & title made me laugh. This shorter-length Christmas story takes rom-com almost to absurd #romance. Get ready for a jewel thief owl shifter to meet her mate as a Norwegian gnome factory owner. #reading#books#romancelandia@romancebooks https://amzn.to/3NlwpzF
