I have really reduced grade grubbing in the past couple of years by simply showing them how the sausage gets made:
I can’t wave a magic wand and change your final grade once posted. There’s a process. My dean needs to sign off. The dean of undergraduate academic advisement needs to sign off. The right-wing media are at it again, with misleading headlines claiming a cis girl was forced to share a bed with a transgender girl.
The real story? Conservative parents succeeded in having a trans girl assigned to another room after she confided that she was trans to their daughter. Even though the trans girl did nothing wrong (except trusting the other child) Alliance Defending Freedom wants to use this incident to forcibly out transgender students. #trans#news

Had office hours with a student today about a paper due tomorrow. He was most concerned about a paragraph that might be confusing. It was the clearest and most honest thing he has written - from the heart as much from the brain.
