Hamad Bin Shukri, 64, #homeless for 6 yrs in #Singapore. With a passion for #birdkeeping, he currently serves as a caretaker for a #BirdClub & sleeps in a shed - he was offered its use after he'd moved from outdoor sleeping spot due to public complaints. Although social workers offered to find him a public rental flat for permanent shelter, he turned down their assistance as he was not keen to share a flat with another person because of his #PetBirds.
When these two flew down to sit together on the back of my office chair, I knew I had the image for today's Project 365.
(These are rescue borbs, Nyota the Lovebird was found after Hurricane Isaac in 2012, 27-year-old Cockatiel Boobear outlived his first owner & came to me with significant grief & crying issues-- they've both been doing great for years)
Missing my sweet peachfronted conure, Courtney, who lived to be 29 years & 11 months, a great old age for his species. In this photo, he gets photobombed by Boobear, the white-faced cockatiel who is an attention hog.
I got one of those cat fountains as a new bath for Echo and she's still trying to decide what it's for. At least she approached it on the same day; it took weeks to get her to go near her backpack carrier. Neophobia is a survival mechanism for small birds....
The other day I was in the kitchen doing kitchen things and Echo flew up to me furiously and dropped all the mighty weight of her 33 grams on the back of my neck like a hawk striking its dinner. Squarely on my spine right below the edge of my skull....
She's been off the amphotericin B for over a week now and she's been lethargic and relatively quiet. Mostly snuggles into my neck and sleeps most of the day. She's eating well though, and her poop is normal looking. And she's at her normal weight of 33 grams. I was thinking about taking her to the vet and stressing her out again...
Yesterday was Echo's first day of not having to take Amphotericin B in a month. She was pretty sleepy but had a good appetite. I'll be keeping a close eye on her and watching for symptoms of avian gastric yeast. I'm going to try to convince her to take a bath today so that we get some of the yellow staining off her flufferchops.
Echo's treatment for Avian Gastric Yeast has been difficult for both of us but today is the 16th day of 30 so we're on the downhill slope, racing for the finish....
One of my personal favorite internet birds is Apollo the Congo African Gray. He showcases just how intelligent parrots are, and African Grays are one of the parrot species that excels in human speech.
Echo's favorite time of day is seed time! Budgies should not have seeds as their only source of food as it's bad for their health. Echo starts her day with Ha...
